2008 Tacoma P043E, 043F, 2400, 2401, 2419 OBD Codes

Had a "Maintenance Required" light on last week then a "Check Engine" light on today. Checked the codes last week using a cheapie code reader and last week it stated 0 faults but 2 pending codes. No idea what the pending codes were as it gave no numbers. I cleared them. Today, the code reader had two faults and two pending faults. The codes had no numbers but simply stated "NA". I cleared those again with the reader.

I ordered a specific Toyota OBD reader today to double check things. The truck is running fine so I have no idea.

Any thoughts??

 

Just pending codes are normally things the ecm has determined could be an issue(id assume 2 trip codes). Id type the codes into Google and see what they say.

Also your maintenance required light probably has very little to do with your check engine lights

 

Maintenence required light is oil change reminder only and has nothing to do with the check engine light, have to know code numbers to tell anything about them.

 

Finally got the codes pulled. P043E, P043F, P2041, P2042, P2419

Dealer stated the leak detection pump on the tank was not working. $707 for the repair at the dealer! I was going to attempt the fix myself but wasn't sure if the tank or bed had to come off to repair the thing! I guess the mechanic was able to pull it without removing anything.

After 13 years of ownership this is the first ever major repair that was needed! Hopefully it's the last...for a while at least!

Anyone want to take a bet that the check engine lights are back on within a month? I hear this is very common!

 

wow, you can do the job yourself for less than half that! they will be pending due to 2 trip detection logic, and the test only runs after you run the truck. So if you reset each time you start the truck you’ll never get a stored code, only pending. See my recent post here!

It sits between the bed and crossmember.

 

Ah, okay, gotcha! I thought it was underneath somewhere.

Being I'm an "old man" I really didn't feel like climbing under the truck to work on it so I had the dealer do it. I figured being this is a common problem on Toyota's that they have the experience and could get it done faster than I ever could. It took maybe an hour to get the truck back today!

Just have to take a chunk out of the income tax check to pay the bill. No biggie!

the benefit of having the dealer do it is that if the CEL comes back it should be covered for at least a little while
