For those that have tailgate pads and traveling, what method are you using to lock your bike to your truck?

A cable lock but I don't let it out of my site more more than like 30 seconds.

    For example,
I'd roll it into the handicap stall at the truckstop bathroom rather than leave it unattended in the bed even if it is locked. Or if I just need to piss, just stop on the side of an empty road.

My wife's 2018 has a Kuat NV but if I use my 2020 to haul MTB's, I just hang them over the tailgate. I haven't even bought one of those fancy covers. I use a rubber yoga mat and then use a strap to hold the rear tire to a tie-down. Have driven hundreds of hwy miles without issue.

This is really cool. I have fork mounts bolted to the front rail but like this much better. Where did you get the black brackets that mount to the d ring bolts? I want to copy this for my own truck.

I love this idea...looks like you almost built bed stuffeners and a quick detach rail system

So this isn't for the tailgate pad method then if you have a bed rack. But yeah, I agree regardless I don't like my bike leaving my sight.

Is that toolbox the UWS EC10312 63-inch? I was thinking of getting that and then using a tailgate pad since the toolbox is only about 13" of bed length. Thanks.

Thanks! I've been eye-balling that one too. Of course since I have a DCSB, the UWS EC10312 is smaller overall, with an inch or 2 less on bed length. I'm looking mainly to store MTB gear in it while still being able to use a tailgate pad (medium size MTBs).

Thanks, yes, I've seen those. But I typically "stage" my MTB after-work rides on weekdays with the truck in the garage (pic). It just fits with inches to spare, thus why I'm targeting a small (bed depth wise) crossover toolbox. I also have a Thule T2 Pro XT/XTR Hitch Bike Rack with add-on Access swing arm, for when I want to load bikes after the garage door is open. That's more of a weekend and/or long drive to far off MTB trailheads. Being able to "stage" is a capability I consider top of the list. While everyone is rushing home after work, I'm headed 2 miles down the road to the trailhead! :D

Front runner load bars with their available bike attachments. I can carry three bikes and still have the entire bed free. With the handlebars taken off the wife and kids beach cruisers I can take 4 bikes

is the 2x4 bolted in anywhere? or the bike is only balanced by the bungies?

Not bolted. It just balances. I ran it this way in my 4runner for 4 years. It's worked in the truck also even in curves.

I didn’t take any good pics but I have fork mounts on the side rails and have mounted both my road and cross bike onto it. Since I have an oem tonneau cover putting the bikes sideways works better than pulling it off. 55E6ADA1-D669-45B9-B1A1-E8D15A87E996.jpg 0F613146-30BB-4A02-AC6B-CDD104FDB929.jpg
