does it sound more like say a belt, or pully? Does it get louder under acceleration?

I've had two 3.4s and both have been "noisy" at idle. More of a tick, tick, tick depending on RPMs. I think they all do it.

It might be annoying but it doesn't seem to be harmful. They keep running and running and running and.........

I've had two 3.4's also, and just like yours both where noisy at idle. Like you said, tick, tick, tick. It's normal.

Mine does the same thing. I thought at first it might be the timing belt or it needed the valves adjusted. Did both and nothing changed. My 4 cylinder made a similar noise too.

I'm thinking it is most likely an intake resonance noise. Seems like it is pretty normal.
