So I have been reading quite a few posts on this as I would like to monitor my trans temps and since I have an UltraGauge that is not possible unless I have a 2nd Gen truck from what I understand. Some say that the ScanGauge will give trans temp for the 1st gen truck no problem while some say no. So for those who have a ScanGauge on the 1st gen trucks (mine is a 2004 V6 4x4 Auto) does it show the trans temp?

    Thanks,
    Dan

I programmed my SG to display trans temps. Been using it for a year now without issues. There is a monster long thread on SG and it has the programmable code derived by members of this great forum, which SG even confirmed to be correct

Yip its not just on there ready to go at purchase. You gotta manually enter an "x code" for it to to be accessed and viewed!

I found some codes that I kept while doing all this research, shows as an X-Code which ScanGauge should be able to read.

    Trans Temp
    TXD: 68 6A F1 01 B4
    RXF: 04 41 05 B4 00 00
    RXD: 28 08
    MTH: 00 09 00 05 FF D8

This one seems to be the one users say works the most for the 01-04 Tacomas but as I do not have a scangauge yet cannot confirm this working or not. I am still trying to see if I can find a scangauge anywhere for cheaper than retail.

My scan gauge 2 displays my automatic trans temperature. As others said, I had to enter the x-code. Works great.

Eh, see my Build Thread sig link. Too many mods to list.
No trans temp sensor on my '97. But the SGII sure looks cool and can read codes, so yay.

Yes. Only on '01 thru '04 models

This is the code I used. As mentioned, it has to be a v2 ScanGauge.

Well looks like it works, got my SG yesterday and put the x-code as above and I have auto trans temps now. When I do some towing now at least I know if I am cooking the trans before the light on the dash comes on. Top right on the SG is the trans temp and it seems to like to run around 150 depending on weather I am on the highway or running around town.

Pretty sure that information is still correct. IIRC, the ecu on the '00 and earlier models doesn't collect that data. It could be there is no built in temp sender on those year trucks.

The 99 taco does show transmission temp with the correct codes??? I thought it was only 01 and up? Woo-hoo!
I might get one. Get tired of plugging in the scanner to see data as I'm learning more and more what the fuel trim code values and changes mean and stuff

Yes does. And the same x-gauge works on your 99 Cruiser. I see the benefit of a big ATF cooler in tran temps. External coolers make a difference. Will be fun for you to see the difference in tran temps between the Cruiser and the Tacoma.

Check the codes again. One time I was off by one digit and it didn't work. 99 and up should work for tran codes.
