Name taken from a This Old Tony video on the stuff, if you don't know about him don't find out unless you got hours to waste. And you were descriptive enough i can probably find the vid you mentioned, thanks. It ain't bad to work with just doesn't have as much of the 'magnetic' property of the puddle so it really matters where you point the torch and feed filler. Also since it takes such less heat a couple amps difference is enough to change how much the bead wets out. Makes it frustrating as hell at first compared to steel but once you get the hang of it it's fun! Make sure you got the filler specifically for tig too, different stuff for oxy acetylene

Ok. That makes sense about the puddle. Good description. Thank you.

I like Tony's sense of humor. Very detailed videos.

The Banks Power video, was this one at Kibbie Tech. https://youtu.be/vpKtVJubejY

Others vehicles have been in priority than the Tacoma for now. Got to keep the DD running well. Friends' and family vehicles included.

The Tacoma still has the ever evolving list of mods to come and do. Too invested to let it age poorly. Got some more frame reinforcement mods to do. Do a little more tuning. Makes another turbo exhaust side kit. As the one on my truck is being sold.

Plenty of fun work to do!

Here is the latest from the Red Booger. AKA The Bloody Tampon...

This time, it was a fascinating dive into its prior life. We had two main goals to accomplish. The fuel filter and fuel pump. My mechanical nature and ear, wants to fix any and everything that doesn't sound right.

I had replaced two idler pulleys that were shot, last time it was over. The unlubricated metal marbles in a metal drum sound persisted. Off the belts came to test every accessory. The water pump was the culprit, and I don't even know how is isn't leaking. The fan tilted downward probably close to 10° once the belt was off. Wow! That belt keeps it "aligned".....No pump so onto the main tasks.

First was the pump. What a surprise that followed.

    20210227_102344.jpg

Reciprocating saw blade had been taken to the filler neck. Guess the prior mechanics didn't have the strength nor skill to get it off without hacking it up...

    Attach0(3).jpg

The cap which holds down the filler neck to the tank, was finger tight.....fail. How well do you think that gasket worked at doing its job?

    Attach0.jpg

Drained it then filled the tank up with water to wash whatever all was in it, out.

    Attach0(6).jpg

These '95 pumps aren't marine rated....

    Attach0(5).jpg

    Attach0(2).jpg

    Attach0(1).jpg

As you can expect, it had a "hard start" issue.
Then all cleaned up as best as capable.

    Attach0(4).jpg

After the fuel pump, we didn't get any pictures of the fuel filter. Nothing exciting going on there, minus the sand draining out of it.

While it there, behind the fuel filter I found a dangling wire though. From a plug on the side of the 3RZ block. Maybe that was related to the CEL his truck had. Sure enough, it was the knock sensor wire.

    Attach0(7).jpg

Soldered and crimped it back together.

    Attach0(8).jpg

On our test drives, he literally stated that was the first time it had seen 60 MPH since his purchase 17 years ago. Wow! He was nearly staggered at how quickly it accelerated. Full Timing map FTW!

@not_nick , I figured it out tonight. Using extremely low current at roughly 11 amp and building up a bead with some .043" filler rod is the key. Then stitch the bed to the angle iron.

@not_nick , finished up for the time being on the tailgate last night. Started out trying my hand a few more times with the normal filler rod. Tedious, and excruciatingly slow paced.

Was ready to rage quite. Had so many things going on recently, that I had forgotten than I had the silicon bronze filler.

Man, what a breeze that was to lay onto the thin body panel, then meld with the angle iron. It does act a little like aluminum.

For any future body connections, it will be the silicon bronze.

No pictures to add. It was all Go-time.

not too shabby... lol the best builds are the insane ones where the guy is still modest

here I was lurking through SC build threads and looking for dyno charts and I come across what looks like something from a prime-time speed shop TV show....... I don’t want to get gushy but this is pretty inspiring

fab work looks second to none. You need to be creative to figure this stuff out like you have.....

I would love to rebuild the bottom
End like this and get some more displacement, for now given my budget I may be sticking to bolt ons ala @BassAckwards or @Athlaos or @TodayWasTHeDaY and so many of the other TRD SC build threads I came across....

One could lurk forever. There’s going to be no end to the idea train now...!..!!!..!!

That’s great to know and not surprised based on this build.... Im in this place where I know I’m smart enough to start asking questions, but dumb enough to not know what questions I should actually be asking.....
