If Toyota didn't put electric gas tank locking door on the Tacoma, you know that they are really into cutting cost anywhere possible. I highly doubt they would even bother with costly additives.

It isn't about costly (secret) additives, it is the specific levels of the additives that are commonly used in all oils.

The Toyota oil has a unique additive package unavailable in aftermarket oils. The product is made for Toyota by Exxon Mobil, however it is not the same Mobil 1 available everywhere but with a Toyota label.

No :crapstorm: intended here, I'm not stating that Amsoil/Valvoline/Castrol/Shell/etc. are "bad" products or that their use will negatively effect engine life.

What I am stating is that Toyota went out of their way to have formulated a unique oil exclusive to them. It costs no more than other products and is easy to obtain so I use it.

Read up in the link below if you have an interest.

Good read, so they do have some specific formula for their own oil. Like you said, other brands might not have the exact same formula of additives, but can be equally good as the Toyota oil or better depends on the application. So to OP's question, then yes, stick to OE oil if you trust Toyota and do 10k internal. The cheapest 0w-20 might not have good additives to last that long.

"equally good as the Toyota oil or better" -- but do we (just workman, not engineers) know??

Say you need to buy a suit: one off the rack probably fits good enough -- but a custom tailored one probably fits better.

Oh I see. You could always get the aluminum one as a replacement.

I got one but it’s there as a spare currently.

Yes, comes in at a slight angle, but not so much that oil isn't easily poured in.
Great, as eliminates all the leaking /mess. I have one for each of my vehicles.

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is rated very high, second only to Amsoil, but cost about 1/3 the price.

I get what ever Synthetic filter is cheapest at RockAuto.com.

I have the MotivX Funnel, it screws on like that and works great, much easier pouring in the 5 Quart jugs.

    this and that...
the motivx oil change essentials with the fumoto valve is good stuff. thats basically everything you need to for a one time low price on Amazon. as for filter, i just use the oem. always has, always will as far as oil filters is concerned. oil is just good ole fashioned mobil1; nothing fancy, but does exactly what it needs to do.

True, but why? save money? you'll never know. I can say it's not made for the 3.5L, but all Toyota engines. Toyota has more Boron than other brands.

And that's about it, nothing special.
