Oh. I don't know that one.

Used to watch This Old House, the New Yankee Workshop, and one real hillbilly that did a lot of awesome woodworking with very basic tools.

Norm Abrams was sponsored with every tool under the sun in every size. It was more of a shill show than anything.

Yup, they did some good stuff, but you definitely needed to tune out for the paid promotions.

Oh yeah. I had an insane desire for a biscuit cutter, but could chop two pieces of lumber to the same length. Hahaha!

Haha! I did want crown molding for a while. Planes and profile cutters are damn cool. Best used just once.

    Woodwrights Shop?

I always like watching that one, lots of traditional hand tools.

    I'm a decent amateur carpenter, so I always wanted Norm's shop :)

I'm a shit amateur carpenter, but that doesn't stop me from pretending. I can frame walls all day, but my brain just can't handle the fact that wood isn't as stable (dimensionally) as metal. It also doesn't prevent me from wanting all the things.

That's the one! He was a great contrast to Norm.

Hell yeah. Just that bones of the place would have been excellent.

I'm the opposite, metalworking is my kryptonite :)

Enough time, effort, broken tools and metal shaving, I can sometimes manage to make something useful, but it's hard for me to make metal cooperate. Wood, however, me and wood get along just fine :D

I agree. I want one. Those are some nice knobs. I think I had the opportunity to jump on that one Dave got, but I’m trying to not spend too much on the taco right now...now I’m just kicking myself. should sell some of the parts that I’m not using.

I am a tiny bit surprised neither of my kids hasn’t taken it to the top and tossed it onto the concrete below. It did get moved a tiny bit and I highly doubt that was my wife because she just gave it a disapproving scowl when I was weighing it.

    That anti-seize better come quick...

The bar end for this batch is basically non-existant so it'll have to wait until I can justify another material purchase, unfortunately.

Yeah it sucks, these places typically have a minimum charge, but then pcs after the initial charge are pretty much pennies each. I would try somebody that works with firearm coatings. Just, uhh ... mask the threads pls. :spy:

I've been fine-tuning for decades now so I take my easy life for granted, but man ... any time I get a speed/feed question that isn't super specific in context, it is pretty much impossible to give an answer. I just give the ol' "check manufacturer specs or use something like g-wizard as a starting point". Otherwise, I just end up doing it for them and taking on all responsibility if they make an error later on.

When I am working up in MA, I have to be really careful and just stay in a support role. I see issues and know how to fix them, but mostly stand there and act like it's a mystery, because otherwise, people have gotten super annoyed and territorial on me during previous visits. I guess it's kinda embarrassing when you bring a 44 minute cycle time down to 16 minutes. :bananadead:

Hey, I wanted my time up there to count for something ...

What really annoyed me though, was I was up there to babysit the lathe dept back in Feb while their regular lathe guy was being trained on the mills. The mill supervisor had a covid scare and was out the whole week. I figured, okay .. I'll jump in the mill and finish that up, normal lathe guy can go back to his dept ... all the work gets done. Nope, I was literally up there for no reason. Mill dept was dark for the whole week.

They also closed the shop for a day due to snow, and I had to use my own vacation time while sitting in the hotel all day. wtf?

Nice guys, very smart, enthusiastic, but just inexperienced (yet somehow are really set in their ways). They are trying to book me for 2-3 weeks at a time and it keeps getting pissed away. Last week was alright though, we got shit done. I'm hoping next week is as productive.

What do you need to start with 1-1/4 round? I'm literally walking through a sea of scrap titanium, inconel, and hastelloy today. I can see what they have and grab a piece maybe. It will probably be something small 3-6" or so.

    Will this work?
