    Hey all,
I couple that I’m friends with is looking at moving to the Springfield area. The husband with continue to drive everyday to Albany for work(trying to talk him out of it). His wife got a job with UMass at the Amherst location. They are have a new baby with them and are looking for a decent rental whether is be a multi-bedroom apartment or home in the $1500 range. Any recommendations or at least a certain area they look at for starters?

The Amherst or Northampton area are both great for young families and will have plenty of options for rentals but they don’t benefit a commute to Albany. Northampton you’re at least near 91 and can shoot down to the highway?! Otherwise something off the highway near the Westfield area might work well.

Like Chris said....most certainly look at Northampton, Amherst, and even the Easthampton area. Chicopee is another area right off of 91. Westfield might be way out of the way for a commute to Amherst.

Westfield was thrown in the ring to give that poor soul commuting to Albany a better chance at sanity haha.

Stealing 4 hours from your new family five days a week is just a SIN! Don't do it. "The wadges of sin is death! " sic. Really, one of the two needs to rethink priorities.
For the sake of the child.

I heard above 1000’ in elevation possibly plowable amounts . Then in the valleys enough to cover the grass . Either way too much .

i initially told him westfield but even that is a hell of a commute to U mass

@VTCAL He, again HE will need to make an adjustment. Myself and another friend will be pushing him on this or "guiding" him to make the best choice for their family. After seeing them in public in a "social" setting for the first time since having a kid, his wife is SPENT. She looked well, however after a short conversation, you can see how emotionally, mentally, spiritually, drained she is.

i honestly do not know how this will work. My friends are from Ghana and the wife is on US embassy work scholarship getting her 2nd (maybe 3rd) phd with a bio-med specialty. He works IT programming. i am trying to get him to setup for remote work (even offer a slight paycut if they will let him go full remote). I advised him to go remote or find a new job. They just had a baby and his wife needs to keep up with school for her program. He cannot be driving driving 17 hrs a week.
Second question. How is public transportation/uber/lyft around the springfield area. I anticipate that they will need a second car. He will be driving and she will need to go to a daycare as well as to the university a couple days a week. i helped him buy his first car and expect to begin that search again. They have lived here a few years, i'm just trying to help guide them along.

 now you know how I moved everything in one shot

I know everyone is different, but a 30 minute ride to work isnt bad in my opinion. Driving to Albany from Westfield would be easier. From the Hamptons if he is going to take the pike its nots going to be fun to get to the pike or off the pike at exit 4
