    Good morning,
Seeing if everyone else had the same experience when ordering a Tacoma. Mine is built with a VIN number. However, it was supposed to be here last Monday, and then Wednesday, then the dealer wasn't sure, texted me Saturday morning, said by the 15th at the latest. So last night I check in are we still on track for Thursday.... now the tracking system says the truck is not available and he has too look into where the truck is... Just strange to me that dealers cannot track shipments. I worked in logistics for many years and we could track moving trucks and items across the country.

They can track it via VIN just fine.

What they don't want to tell you is someone else has bought it off another lot it stopped at along the way.

    Hope I'm wrong........

I waited 5 months for my build date to come, and then a horrific two weeks as it went from the plant to the port to the dealership.

The port takes their dear sweet time.

Sorry to hear, and not trying to defend anyone, but shipping is complete shit nearly everywhere. At work, we get daily email updates about the freight in and out getting delayed. We're not huge, but at work we average nearly a half million a day in sales, and we couldn't get UPS freight or FedEx freight to pickup for 3 days. Of course you'd have to add the inbound delays and our backlog since the product is coming in waves.

I thought the port meant dealer for some reason.. There is another stop along the way? I see some of my options are "port installed" I assumed dealer.

Thanks, totally get it. My excitement is really getting the best of me. You'd think someone in their 40's would be less excited.

Haha, I'm impatient,,,, I'd be the pot calling the kettle black if I commented on your eagerness.
I see you have a 4 wheeler in your avatar- my buddy has been hemmin n hawin on buying used or new, since used prices are ridiculous. He spent 2 months deciding, and just 2 weeks ago ordered a Honda and it won't be here until late June,,,, of course that's IF it doesn't see the delays everyone else is seeing.

I'm in logistics. This is more driver shortage than anything unless you're close to the terminal. Driver's won't pick up stuff close to their base because they're hourly and want their hours more than anything.

I was on the same boat as you and just as excited to which my wife thought was ridiculous for a 52 year old man, and my truck just like yours had the same tracking problems until it reached port. After that the process picked up exponentially and within a few days it was ready for pickup. So don't get panicked yet. BTW my wife now has taken possession of my taco off road and drives it way more than I do. Figures just how my luck goes!

Ahhh, I haven't thought about that! Makes sense, we're right in the middle of a major metro, less than 10 minutes from an international airport, rail, barge, etc. So we're probably on the pay no mind list. I'm in sales, I don't know anything about it, just need my products and need to ship em after work is performed :D

I have since sold the 4 wheeler and have a Mule, not as fun, but more useful on the land.

Modifications are bad and only bad people modify.
I put a deposit down on 3/24. No updates so far. It's going to be a long wait.

I agree and hope you are wrong too. In February, a local dealer offered me a deal on a Taco in transit, only to tell me when I called back to accept it.. that another dealer saw it in the system and sold it. This was all within 24 hrs. Hopefully since the OP has the VIN and it's their build, that wont happen.

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
    Patience, grasshopper.

Yes, shipping is very slow. My dealer was tracking mine for me as well and I think it sat on a train in Kansas City for 3-4 days before being offloaded and sent to the dealership.

But like someone else said, it just makes it all the sweeter when you get that call to come pick it up!

    Somewhere hot, flat and brown.
Nope. Port means port unfortunately. And a lot of things are done once they reach this stage. Port installed options, bedside decals and many other final assembly checks and/or adjustments if necessary. Believe it or not, minor cosmetic work is done here too. Applies mostly to vehicles that are truly imported like the 4Runner, but things happen on the ship during transit. OEMs generally have a man with a “golden hammer” to address small cosmetic issues that may have occurred on the boat.
