Just curious about y’all’s opinions on upgrading a 2017 Sport model with stock suspension with the newer Pro suspension (Fox).
Worth the upgrade? I’m 95% on road but the stock sport shocks suckkkk when going over the smallest bumps in the road

It all depends on what you pay for it.

I'm upgrading my sport shocks and coilovers, I agree the stock form is too stiff, my Toyota Avalon is even softer. Maybe I'll later regret, stiffer suspension is good for on-road use if you like to corner fast

How many miles are on your truck? 4wd? As far as on road manners go, see if you can test drive a Pro first. I drove the OR, Sport, Limited and Pro back to back before buying mine. Very little difference. Now, when I swapped my used up old suspension on my 06 Off-Road for some new bilsteins and leaf packs, things improved, but that was due to wear, not magic carpet ride shocks. Tacoma on road manners will always suckkkk just like elephants will always be bigggg. Small, light, body-on-frame truck, ya know? You can only dial out so much of that without extreme measures.

Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.
So you want to update the suspension but keep the truck at stock height?

The great majority of Tacoma owners want to lift their trucks 1.5" ~ 2" when doling out the kind of coin you're talking about.

lol yeah if I don’t buy them I can link
    you

I understand it’s light and the body on frame isnt helping matters..I’m about to compare my wife’s Pro T4R to my Tacoma (I know it’s a good difference), but it rides so much nicer.

I know the Pro models usually sit an inch higher than the other models from factory. Haven’t researched too much on what this would do for me besides some dampening control over bumps at high speeds.

Comparing a Taco to a 4Runner will tell you nothing. Different vehicles, suspension design, weight distribution. All of it. The 4R is a much more comfortable vehicle on road, but that’s not a fair comparison at all.

Right, I know. But I’m assuming the pro suspension is still set up a bit better than the stock sport one is

My sticking point on used shocks is that a set of Fox shocks is the service life (50k). A used set of foxs is $1000-2000 depending on the mileage and if you trust the sellers reported miles. Fox shocks can be rebuilt for about $180 per shock plus shipping, sending them to Fox. Let’s call the total service $800 if you do the removal and install yourself. So you buy a used set, put it on, drive for 20-30k miles, take them off, put the stock shocks back on for two weeks, pay $800 to get the, rebuilt and swap them out again. So within 12-24 months you will have spent $1800-2500 on the shocks and had to do 3 installs. It seams like just buying a new Fox setup for $2300 would make a lot more sense.

I went from offroad suspension to the pro suspension. Night and day difference, pro being much better. The truck feels way more controlled over bumps, I dont even notice construction zones anymore.

Lol noooo. If I put these on. They’re staying on until the truck falls apart or they fall apart, at which time id buy another set. I’m too lazy to have them sent off for rebuild and wait on that turn around time

It MAY be, but the only way you would know that is if you drove your wife's back to back with another 4R with whatever spec those come in that's close to Sport in Tacoma land. Apples to apples comparison...4R and Taco test is not that.

I gotta repeat...go drive Pro Tacoma. Without knowing more about the age and wear on your truck and what you want to accomplish, I think you may be headed for disappointment if you drive a 4R, install basically ANY new suspension in yours, and expect it to feel like that. Managing expectations...

I would look at other systems other than the TRD Pro stuff if you're looking to upgrade. There are many options out there. I would think new TRD Pro's would be overpriced, unless you find some used ones or some new-ish take-offs. Tires, psi & spring rates have a lot to do with ride quality, too.

    What's your budget?

I’ve looked at the typical Bilstein 5100 setup all around and adding a leaf to the rear. Comes to about $670 if I do the install myself so below $1000 if possible

Wait a minute...You are looking to add a leaf but one of your concerns was being too stiff on the road? Not to mention pre-load on the front springs on 5100s since you're going to presumably be lifting? It's cool, don't get me wrong, my old truck had that set up. But a remedy for road manners that suckkk? Nope.
