That’s a nice setup! I like the simplicity and cost of a soft top, but the lack of security is a little off putting. I’d absolutely love something like the RSI SmartCap, but that’s $$$. I’ll just keep entering their giveaways with hopes I’ll win one day hahaha.

I would definitely like protection from the elements since I’m potentially planning a trip to Moab this fall and a trip to Vermont for a gravel race next year. The soft top is probably good enough for that.

    Nah! I sleep in style!

Build thread in sig - ripped out passenger seat (you get an airbag light), build PVC platform. That picture is from a 12 day road trip, I stole the couch cushions for that - I am 5'10 was able to lay fully extended and it was like sleeping on a couch, very comfortable. This weekend I'm going out for a 2-night trip, going without the cushions (it's plywood covered in thin, unpadded carpeting) to try it for a short stretch and see how it goes.

Yeah, I would trust the soft topper with my bike to run into a store or gas station, or while I'm sleeping in the truck at a normal camp site. I wouldn't leave it in there long term unattended/etc. It's not secure, but it's secure enough for what I use it for. Weighs next to nothing and comes on and off in 5 minutes, and they go used in the 550$ neighborhood for a short bed. :notsure: checked all my boxes.

Yeah my wife is not a fan of boondocking camping - to quote her "I thought I would be, and I wanted to be...but it turns out I'm higher maintenance". This setup is awesome for 1 + 1 dog, and the added benefit - I no longer am chosen to drive coworkers to lunch on Fridays

If she's like a few of my ex's, she might prefer to be a backseat driver anyway

FWIW my wife is a veterinarian and our dog has a seresto collar for fleas/ticks and monthly interceptor for heartworm

Word on the street is a growing immunity towards the Frontline stuff

Seresto collars have a massive class action suit against them for health side effects in pets AND humans. Maybe something to do a little research on.

    o_O

You got more details on how you built that? That looks about similar for me and wouldn't require pulling the seats............

(Air mattresses are out, though, dog claws and all).

One benefit I do like with mine - no setup. I can pull up and not have to get out or move anything around. That's real nice in the rain either at night or in the morning. If you button up the night before and know it will rain overnight, you can roll over and drive away without getting out in the morning
