    Yeah.
Exactly why I went for the 15W, not sure why they left off the weather channels on the 40W. They are great little units.

For the Rigs and Coffee trail ride, I hope to have 6 Midland Xtra Talk LXT118 FRS radios for members to use on the run. I believe others already have GMRS or an FRS walkie-talkie.

Does anybody have a channel suggestion for a group or mixed with GMRS and FRS users? I have a GMRS license, not sure everybody else has one.

Looks like we can recommend an FRS (free) channel to use from 8 to 14. The idea is to publish the channel/frequency before the meet so everybody knows how to stay in communication to and from the trail.

Also, to publish a common meeting location and time at the trail beginning so we don't need to worry about losing people on the route from Rodney Parham out to the country.

I should know the route the host is picking sometime tomorrow.

Lost? Me too..:rofl: That's why I got us some radios..

Trying to get a caravan down Kanis and out to HWY 9 on a Saturday afternoon was a challenge-- especially when Roy Dudley had an auction happening along the route.

@HDMOTT My first group OR adventure trip was with the Express Rally group. There were 58 rigs on the trip. When you have that many rigs everything is carried out like a military operation. Very structured. Very enjoyable.

Every rig has identification decals/signs you can easily spot who is in the group and who is not.

Everybody uses the same map. Radios on the same freq. Radios are preset and issued to people who don't have a built-in.

Line up by make and model.

You guys should try Browns Creek Road. Take this road west all the way to HWY 7. South on HWY 7 about 2 miles to Lake Winona Trail. The fist 1/2 of Winona Trail is pretty rough. Browns Creek Trail is beautiful. Wife and used to make this loop.

I don't know if we have any 100 series people in the group that have been one of the 100 rigs on the 100s in the Hills event at Silverton CO. I'm planning to go this summer in late July early August.

It may not be an official event due to size restrictions. But a number of us are going to be there anyway.

That looks like fun. Some of my first trails were on Trail 86 around Cedar Creek Lake.

I like the Mountain that's on the south side of the trail (closer to HWY 7). Seems to be popular with the climbers. Last time wife and I were through there, they were camping at the base. Looked really cool.

That is a neat looking mountain. The last time I was there was during the big snow.

FRS channels 1 through 7 are shared with GMRS and can be used to communicate with GMRS radios. GMRS can receive 8-14 FRS, but can't transmit since those are reserved for .5 watts or less and most GMRS are 15 watts and greater. Best bet is to use Ch 4 if using a mix of GMRS and FRS.

The run last month was my first time out in a group and I liked it a lot better than going alone, and having someone with a known route instead of just wandering around was great too. I don't have any comms equipment so I will try and stay close, also I hope this new route has an exit in case I don't have time to do the whole trail again.

I think having an exit is a great idea. Post it to the FB discussion group where Brad has a thread going on the topic.

Not sold on the magnetic mount...I don’t like the idea of a wire flopping around, potentially snagging things, and having to run it through a door or window. I figure just drill for NMO mount and that way it’ll be future proof if I ever get into ham radio as well. I don’t know though, we’ll see what I say when I have that circle bit in my hand...

I've had none of the problems you mentioned. It's not ideal, but better then the alternative...at least for me. When I had that 6 dB antenna on tight trails, I knocked it over a couple times, but it didnt go down easy.

I will have a few Midland xTalk radios to loan.

This is the map from last month in reverse.

We will all meet at the Paron Community Center at 1:00 PM before we hit the trail.
