OVTune 3.5L Tacoma Supercharger and Twin Turbo Systems

What was your exact turbo setup (software/hardware) for this test?

 

I took a few but others are just of the tach..boring.

2017 TRD
Powermax tubo kit ~ 7psi
93 octane
tow setup, loaded trailer and some stuff in the bed.

You can see with the exception of getting on the onramp 2x, the truck drives almost always right around 2000-2100 rpm. Speeds ranging from 55 to 70mph.
I floored it a few times at the end just to see how weighed down it felt at WOT.

other than that it didn't really ever need more than 30-40% throttle. and driving with 3-4psi in 5th lets it cruise along with traffic.


But the point of this test was to confirm all is well (AFR, throttle, ignition, etc) really bogged down towing on this new map. So we can finally be done.

I am now really excited for these to become available again.

 

Im kind of skeptical as I get 14-16 mpg not towing anything with my Taco. Running 4.88 gears, 33" tires, 2.0 Regular Tune, have a canopy on the back with camping stuff. Seems like the truck does well after flashing a tune, then after a few thousand miles just dives in fuel efficiency. I have seen 18-20mpg before but not for the last six months. Maybe winter gas?

I was just reporting what the truck was saying. Without a doubt though my towing MPG *report* was much better than the last time tested with less weight and no turbos where my dash was showing 8mpg. I bet if I took a very long drive (an entire tank) it would be closer to probably 12

 

I see trac off and check engine light. Same as me, is this not fixed in the new tune?

 

My truck has these lights because I have no rear O2 sensors at all, I don't bother to turn the ligthts off just for testing

So when I put a manual, single stage boost controller in, I actually need two of them no?

Looking at what Turbosmart has to offer, it looks like they sit inline, meaning each could only support one spooly boi?

Did you get a chance to check for leaks yet? I have no lights still after changing out clamps on all the silicone. I'm catless downpipes

 

I beaded and clamped tight all connections. The only thing that isn’t beaded is the aluminum y supplied by OV. I thought it may be where I hooked up the boost gauge, but recently sealed and clamped all those connections too. I haven’t been able to read cels lately, but have been able to clear them. It’s not long before I get a new one. I’ll figure out techstream one of these days, but I’m hoping for a code free tune tbh.

I’m a novice, if I have a leak somewhere maybe, I’d appreciate a couple pictures on where they ‘could’ be. Everything is clamped tight.

 

Tight seal on your airbox? What's your silicone - turbo connections look like? Didn't matter how tight the wider t-Clamp was on mine, it still leaked which is why I switched to a narrower worm clamp

 

I consistently got about 8 to 10 mpg while towing abot 5000 lbs as well. This is on Colorado going over mountain passes flooring it. Excited to get my kit to start towing, the whole reason I went with this setup.

 

Yep. Kinda felt the absurd amount of money spent on StopTechs BBK was a waste over the setup in this thread. The StopTech rotors with improved cooling plus the TRD/StopTech Sport pads made a big difference, especially paired with stainless braided brake lines. I can say on my Gladiator I'll look to do the exact same, StopTech rotors plus their performance Sport Pads. Then possibly stainless line swap. Of course on a Gladiator the stock rear discs are actually larger than the front StopTech Tacoma BBK swap for 17" wheels (yes you read that right). Will be good for the 440hp Gladiator Magnuson supercharger sitting in my kitchen.

 

Just go big and get AEV's hemi v8 swap kit and boost that

 

My code is an evap (very small) leak code, so I’ve been focusing on the boost gauge side since I tied in the gauge to the small hose coming out of the front of the intake. Could an evap code be caused by IC piping?

It may be gone now after I sealed and clamped up on that side. Since I can’t read codes it may be a misfire code or something, who knows.

Will try out this new tune and go from there. Looking forward to it.
