Delay in my Tacoma Delivery

I've read others have had delays in delivery, are you all still having this issue?

Ordered my Tacoma on March 31, at that time they told me it would take 40 some days.

I wanted to get an update this week so a couple days ago I asked one of the salesmen for an update, and he said 60 days out. Was confused so I reached out to the original salesperson who got me the deal, she said she asked the manager right then (2 days ago) and it was 28 days out, I told her another salesman told me 60 days but she said she asked her manager and it's 28 days out. When I asked her to send me an email with that, she sent an email saying it will be here on June 8... which isn't 28 days out...

I looked on their website and they have another cement gray with the options I'm looking for also, but says "may be in transit".

Anyone know what's going on with the change in numbers from 40 days, to 28 days, to 60 days out?

Aside from the pandemic and high demand for Tacomas, I know the computer chip shortage has caused production issues for every manufacturer.

Sounds about right. Usually new builds are 60-90 days. There’s tons of part shortages currently so it could get delayed beyond normal or estimates could change.

Simple. The salesman generally knows, on a good day, nothing.

You mentioned that you placed your order with one salesman, then inquired with another one? I’m guessing the original one isn’t there anymore? One salesman gives you one answer, another says something different.

Salesman #1 said 60 days. He went to someone in the back office and said “hey man how long does it take to order a Tacoma?” The person who gave him the 60 day quote probably never even looked anything up or made eye contact while giving the answer. “It takes about 60 days.”

Salesman #2 did the same thing. The inventory mgr in the back says 60 days. Then this person does some simple math from when you placed your order. “Uhh.....about 28 days.”

Bottom line: it’s on the way. You may have even spotted yours on their site by accident. Only way to know for sure is to go there in person and get someone with the authority to show you the actual order, VIN, allocation and transit info. Harder than it seems, but that’s the way it goes. Be patient though. These days, everything is a big fat COVID logistics mystery.

So when I ordered it they said they have one on the way already, and was 40 some days out then. I asked about the VIN#, and the one they provided at the time, the salesman said it's not the same as the truck coming, and is just for paper purposes and is made up... sounded weird to me

Mine got delayed last September beyond the original timeline. It’s just an estimate and things happen.

I ended up finding what I wanted at a dealership a couple hours away instead, wanted to get in on the incentive that was expiring end of the month.

This sounds like total BS. I didn't order my Taco but from what others on here have said, once they give you a VIN that VIN never changes. It sounds like this dealership is playing games with you. Possibly the truck you ordered was accidentally sold to someone else, that happened to a member here which in their case seemed to work-out for the better.

Forget talking to Salesmen, I'd get in-touch with the manager of the dealership and get some facts.

    Good luck!

I remember being told that there is a temporary vin assigned to the allocation pre-build. Once the truck is actually built it receives a new vin which of course doesn’t change.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Keep in mind there are 2 different VINs used. There is a temporary VIN assigned for production to track the vehicle. The final, permanent VIN is not assigned until the vehicle is built. I went thru this with my '21 TRD OR. The dealers get the temporary VIN once their allocated vehicle(s) go into (or schedule for) production.

There’s a temp vin while it’s in allocation (build queue). The real vin comes once the build starts.

Found onLine, according to Cox Automotive, there's only about a 25-day supply of Tacoma and Tundra models for the entire US.

I am in the same boat. My truck was expected last Monday, then Wednesday, then not sure, Saturday got a text saying by today (15th) at the latest. On Tuesday was told thet could not locate the truck. Last night the truck is sitting in Chicago. So I asked by the weekend? The response was don’t hold my breathe. Chicago is about a 2.5hr drive from here... I am getting more anxious since I sold my other car, and down to one with the Wife.

There is a good sized thread discussing this...
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...e-to-wait-for-your-2021-factory-order.693313/

They can give you an expected build date (which fluctuates) along with the spec sheet. This will have the temporary/pre-production vin#. Then as others have said, you will get the actual vin# after it is built. My build date was pushed back 5 days from what they originally told me at the beginning of March.

Dealerships can’t give u a exact date of delivery just estimated dates . It’s a brand new build things can happen at the manufacture...in transit.. lack of staff...and so on ..Covid has screwed a lot of stuff for manufacturers.things are not the same anymore and we won’t be back to normal for a long time . People act like this pandemic is over and things are back to normal . Be patient or just buy one that is in stock with the option u want . Best of luck .

I know this is an old message, but last year in August me and my FIL both purchased new Tacomas from the same dealer. He placed his order about 1-2 weeks before me and his was "scheduled" to get here about a week before mine. We were both given our VIN's and told it'd be 3-4 weeks.

Fast forward a few weeks and I get the call that mine is ready; we both go down and they tell him "we're not sure where yours is, but it 'should be' in transit"

They then told him that they happened to have another truck (same color, still 4x4 TRD OR, but with the technology package; which comes with the front/side cameras, the rear backup sensors, sunroof, and the JBL audio) so they were able to upsell him the new truck with this tech package that when we ordered, they didn't have in the system. This new truck had a different VIN number than his original, but mine stayed the same. So I'm wondering if they sold the original VIN truck to someone else who was willing to pay more (since demand is so high) and then was also able to get more out of my FIL by having him get the truck with the Tech package also. This worked out for him because he really wanted the sunroof model anyways, but they said they didn't have any available when we placed our orders. Or maybe someone backed out of the Tech package truck and his original VIN truck was actually still in transit and they just weren't sure where. Anyways, just wanted to tell my experience that I had recently regarding the VIN's.
