I feel like Columbus were a trade deadline winner. Turned Nick Foligno and David Savard into 2 first round picks.

 

Fair, except this year the draft is a mess with those late picks. Not enough scouting and the leagues that played had limited games.

 

I was totally fine with dumping our first rounder. It's not a big deal this year, I doubt Dubas has the level of information he'd usually have at the draft.

 

Both true. If Jarmo even use those picks. If I’ve learned one thing from being CBJ fan with Jarmo at the helm, is to expect the unexpected.

 

McElhinney is terrible. Should have found a better backup goalie

It's situational too. I know there is some talk around here that Rutherford upset the team in the past when we were playing well and added 3-4 pieces. Even the existing roster was unhappy. So there is a fine line. I think the Leafs did what they needed to do. I do think the Jets and Oilers are not playing as well as expected (overall) and probably could've used a move to address some things but maybe the right move wasn't there. Especially when they are both a little farther out of the "all-in" category than the Leafs anyways. The Caps did seem like they may have overpaid in their deal though. That was the one that stood out to me as a lot to give up. But they did get Mantha with term left, so I understand. Also, I assume the Caps think he can elevate when he's out of the black hole that is Detroit.

 

Ya he was really solid there in that span. But always liked Carter, for some reason. So nice to have him in the Black and Gold, even though he's a bit older now.

 

Why the Lightning continues to use McElhinney is beyond me. Last night was terrible

 

Yep, he is pretty terrible. His reflexes are so slow. Don’t know what they expected from a 37 year old goalie that has mediocre stats at best.

 

I remember when Leafs fans were losing their minds because we let him go. He had one more good year after that before falling apart.

He's in motion tracking a slow puck. That was his fatal mistake. He needed to plant and wait it out.

 

I watched the first half or so of that game. Vegas is just tough, man. They are relentless. Even when they are losing the posession battle, they will make you pay, if given the chance. I think that hurt, LA in that game. It's just so hard to get momentum against Vegas and then when they get that 2 on 1 goal and roof it, then the hopper 3rd goal. Tough to come back. At least the Reverse retros look sick though lol.

As much as I hate to say it, JQ is not the same guy. He's 1 of my fav tendys ever, but Cal is the guy now, I think (even though he got lit up a bit too.)

I think sometimes even when you plant/wait it can be just as bad or worse. Similar to baseball, you are supposed to attack it to sort of to react to what the puck does as you are close. That way if it hops, you are (in theory) close enough that you shouldn't have to move much. When you wait, you set-up and then that hop can throw your timing off (or go higher than you expected). When I played goal, I dreaded those, for fear of looking like a fool lol.

 

You misunderstand. I mean plant, wait, react. Like Baseball. In ball you don't take off directionally on a ball hit to you that hasn't bounced either. Yes you move to the center, but he's almost there anyway and doesn't need to over react. Difficult play anyway, hopefully they don't make him watch it lol.
