Front Bed Header Height Higher Than Side Rails

The front bed header on my 2021 TRD Pro seems to sit proud of the side rails by about 5mm. Photo attached. This makes my canopy seals not seal tightly, and it leaks like a sieve, which is ridiculously annoying. Are they all like this? Some dudes in my neighborhood have some Gen3s and theirs seem more near flush. Can you buy flush ones? I am not ever planning on using a Tonneau to begin with. What is the easiest remedy this seal issue? Thinking of yanking the thing off and buying a piece of aluminum angle and drilling the 4 holes so the height exactly matches the side rails - perhaps seal better then. Any better advice is greatly welcomed please.

 

I have a 2020 Pro and mine looks like yours in the picture. I have a Diamondback, which has a fairly decent sized gasket which seems (so far) to prevent leakage. Also, I have a square of foam weather stripping that sticks the end of the header bar to fill in the gap between the bar end and the side of the bed.

 

part #s 62541-04010 and 62542-04010. These are OEM factory bed rail plugs that go on the bed rail closest to the cab. If you have a tonneau cover,these plugs will prevent the water fromleaking into the bed.

 

Seems abnormal. On my 2021, the front and side caps are flush.

 

My 2021 are flush as well

 

I have this issue with my 21 Sport DCSB. Didn't notice until I was installing a Sideride bike mount this weekend. Doesnt make sense that some are like this and some not. I'm assuming it is supposed to be flush.

 

My ‘21 pro is a bit higher too. Not quite that much though. Have you taken it off to investigate?

Makes me want to ask you if your rear bumper to tail light gap is the same on each side. My driver side has a bigger gap compared to the passenger side. I noticed yesterday while putting in MESO Stage 1 LEDs (They are awesome!). The truck is new without any damage at all. All fasteners and brackets appear to be in place and solid.

I am considering elongating the rail bolt holes to try to drop it down and sit more flush. Just an idea right now I’m not sure if the bed ribs will allow it to drop downwards.

I’ll know more in the next couple weeks once I get my cover on.

 

Subscribed to this thread. Mine sits a little proud too, was considering a diamondback some time down the road, don’t want this to be a problem with it sealing.

 

Mine was similar to the OPs on a 2020 DCSB Sport. However, I’m in the process of installing a Diamondback SE and had to pull the cab rail off to install the Diamondback bulkhead seal. I also put on the OEM rubber seals. After everything went back on, there’s now maybe 1 mm height difference. Might be worth taking it off and reinstalling.

 

My 2020 isn't flush either. That looks about the same difference in height. I have a diamondback and made sure to really compress the seal when adjusting the locking arms. With some RTV silicone in the gap, it hasn't leaked yet

I added those front seals like you have in your pic. Before I put on my diamondback my front rail sat flush. then I added the weatherstripping under the rail, now it’s up a touch, similar to OP pic. What really keeps water out is those other front seal pieces... and I sealed the gate too. Love my diamondback, still hate tonneau covers Looking to sell it

 

Not to hijack the thread but what did you use to seal the tail gate?

 

I have these in and it doesn't stop the water leaking in the corners under my shell. RTV worked way better.

 

Rok blok and whatever the suggested add on is on Amazon. There is a recent thread and video related to the tailgate gap cover. When I had my cover on you could feel the difference in closing. Really Did help keep dust out.

I’m not saying you did it wrong, I had to trim my bed rail caps with tin snips to get them in. It took a while to figure out how they went in there as it is. Then I finally found the right post somewhere.

 

Mine were factory installed with the tonneau cover. They help with the gap but don't seal it off perfectly.

 

So are these the factory plugs? I have them from the factory I assume because of having the factory cover?

The fact that the diamondback is adjustable as to the force when closed is yet another plus me thinks.

 

Yeah those are the factory plugs. And yes the diamondback is adjustable. When you first get it the seals are really squishy and you have to put a lot of weight on top of the cover to compress the seals and get a good seal. Then, Later on again
