Could be said about most brands I expect. Bobcat, Exmark, Toro, etc. I guess Scag is the only one I can think that might not have a residential line?

The ZT- HD that I got (for my <1 acre of grass) has commercial frame, deck, wheels/casters, hydros but a more residential grade engine. But I’m not running it 20-30 hours a week so should last me for years.

Scag has mowers that I would consider to be residential. There is a big difference in the decks from the lower end models compared against the tiger cat and above

I didn’t look at them carefully I guess.

But that further proves my point then.

I have gotten 15 years out of a $2600 Cub Cadet RZT 42, the R is for residential. I ended up using the mower much harder than expected mowing 6 lawns (not for $) separated by miles. The mower has thousands of miles on the trailer and I wore the first set of rear tires bald.

My point is: I do change the oil, filters and keep it indoors -- it keeps on trucking.
If you take care of that beauty you will still be running it in 30 years!

That’s good to hear! We have 9 different “zones” on the yard and the whole lot slopes down to the lake so I wanted a robust drivetrain that was serviceable so most of the more residential type mowers with their sealed hydraulic pumps scared me off.

For your amusement - if the rear tire on a zero turn suddenly goes flat at speed you will immediately make a hard turn in the direction of the flat tire.
If you happen to be on the edge of a drop off you will quickly discover that zero turns don't glide at all. I zoomed over the edge of the bank and dropped/slid about 6 feet into the ditch below. Just another day of rural living.

I've never been on one but I see several around this area mowing. I think my brother has one, don't talk to him much. They look like they would be easy to get thrown off of but I guess not since you see so many.

I also have not been on one, but I think there is usually some suspension on the platform (to some extent) and you keep your knees bent. Also you have much better visibility so you can maybe avoid obstacles that might throw you? I just have a lot of hills and you can use your weight to keep those balanced a little better, plus you can just jump away if it rolled vs having an 850# mower on top of you. Which reminds me, I need to order my ROPS kit for the Gravely

Tuesday night I finally sold my JD 2320 and with it went my only means of mowing, aside from the push mower but thats not happening on my 2ac plot. Headed to the "ORANGE" store yesterday asking about zturn mowers and what they had in stock as its getting close to hiring goats. Had my 2 sons with me who Im going to make do more yard work this year including mowing. My youngest picked out one he fit well on and seemed to like, of course he isn't paying.....
Walked out with papers signed for a Kubota Z421 with a 54" deck. I am not a fan of a single use machine coming from my JD but my current 3 series is just too large to mow and was never a consideration when I bought it. So hopefully by the end of next week I will have someone mowing my lawn. Ive only used a zturn once about 20 years ago and could not stand the controls but time to learn new tricks.

A tractor of a different flavor for you all. My new (to me) 1985 Autocar At64F with a Cat 3406, 13 speed. just shy of 25,000 miles on her.
It's been sitting in a steel building for the past 18ish years.

Good looking rig! I have never seen one. A friend of mine has a Marmon that looks sorta like that, only one I've ever seen around here.

It's 4 years older than me haha. And yes, plenty of woodgrain and pleated leather to go around.
