Hi out there in Tacoma World, Peter247 here.
I having a bit of a problem and would appreciate and advice you my have to offer on this matter.
I recently ordered from the factory a Tacoma Limited 4x4 Nightshade edition.
After a few weeks the dealer informed me that the color I chose "Wind Chill Pearl" was not available anymore.
He stated that there was a shortage in paint nation wide.
OK the next day I settled for the same truck in White.
The next day the dealer called and said that white is no longer a option.
OK, I asked to changed the color to Metallic silver.
His answer, that's not available with the Nightshade option.
    WTF is going on here!
Is this some sort of dealer BS or is Toyota really having production problems.
I find it hard to believe that there can be so many restrictions of a factory order.
After all, what's the sense in a factory order if you can't get what you want?

    I'd cancel the order.

Then hunt another dealer. Restart the process.

IMHO, something isn't square with your dealer.

Or find a Tacoma on a lot.

Welcome to the TW forum Peter247

I would get some clarification from the Sales Manager first, then find another dealer
and consider contacting Toyota Customer Service ;)

    Good Luck !

My experience with buying a Tacoma. All the salesmen from the dealership hung out in the same neighborhood bar I did...so I started talking with them and made friends before I ever mentioned I was looking to buy. So i feel they were honest with me.
When I wanted a Blue Tacoma back in 2012...that was not a common color that was sold on the lot and I wanted specific options/configuration I would not budge on. The sales guy was upfront with me said they very rarely order a Toyota, "Toyota likes selling off the lot and is not into orders" (and this is a very large dealership in a major city). He said they can almost always find what someone wants through a search of the Toyota Region and transfer it from one dealer to mine (I believe there are 5 regions, mine was "Gulf States". He said if they could not find what I wanted in 2 weeks of searching they would order it. That is what happen I went in, watched them enter the options in the computer...and it came 4 months later.

Sounds like the guy doesn't want to deal with you.....Did you talk finances first? With all due respect Do you have shaky credit, checkered work history, questionable finances? If so that is probably why they don't want to deal with you. I would try a few more dealers and don't mention anything of what you have previously experience.

Just from reading the local paper, they do say production is slowing down at the plant...but there are no layoffs and are still cranking out trucks. But they have also said they demand for Tacomas is very high and inventory is low.

    Good Luck.

I not a big conspiracy fan, however all these issues started right after my dealer was contacted by my Costco Auto program rep.
The dealer was insisting that I had to accept the dealer installed appearance package "Pin striping & Door edge guards" $695.00, no thank you.
I disputed it as it clearly states in the paperwork that factory orders are not subject to dealer added options.
No sooner did I receive confirmation from Costco that the charge was removed, you guessed it.

As for finding a new Tacoma on a lot, there not a lot of trucks out there.
What I'm looking for input as to the restrictions place on a factory order.
If there legit so be it. If not I like to know before going back to a dealership.
    Thanks

That explains it. I don't think any dealers like those buying programs. I have access to the GM Supplier discount through work and I was never able to use it especially on an ordered vehicle (which is common for GM). There was always a "Gotcha, we can't do that" at ever turn.

Primo 95, I think you may be right as to them not wanting to deal with me.
They did ask me about financing and they did do a credit check.
    FYI my score is 800+.
I have no debit & can write a check for the whole thing.
As I posted I think they are just being spiteful for bring Costco into the picture.
You had to be there to see the general managers face when I had the salesman point out the fact that on there own printout I did not have to purchase there appearance package.
The GM totally lost it and rip the salesman a new A.H..
I'll be contacting Toyota customer Service to see what there story is.
    Thanks again for your input.

Well I received a phone call today from dealer.
There making it with all the options I wanted.
Just have to wait till July for delivery.
Ill believe it when I see it at the dealership.
It should be a sweet ride.
Limited, Nightshade edition, in wind chill pearl white.
Ill post pictures if and when it arrives.

    Welcome to TW!

I tried using the Costco program recently, and they actually wouldn’t provide me the deal, they sent it to a dealership that was no where near me! Soi couldn’t even see the “savings” I was getting. Then I couldn’t get the dealership to quit calling me.

There is no such thing as a 'factory order'. At least not from Toyota.

There is buy what's on my lot, I'll find what you want (or maybe close) on someone else's lot, I might find close to what you want in the 'shipping pipeline' and have it allocated to you.

And which region you shop in can even make it worse. Gulf State and SE Toyota are the worst.

Be willing to fly where close to what you want is found and you may have more hope. Best of luck!

This right here ^^^. Anybody that thinks differently doesn’t understand how the process works. Some dealers and regions are better at finding what you want or working on the allocation and some don’t care. Pretty simple.
