CARB gas cans that don't suck

Anyone know of any brands of gas cans that let you get most of the gas into the vehicle you are filling? All the ones I've used leak all over the place.

What I really want is a 3 to 5 gallon cylinder shaped bottle (which you can get for water, CO2, propane, etc) which would be easier to mount and take up less space on my flatbed than jerry cans.

Also, all of the plastic ones I've seen balloon or raisin depending on the temperature. I just don't get why it's so hard.

 

Not enough of a market to do the research and design pay the product liability insurance Either gear up to manufacture or out source to off shore.

About thirty years ago a company was making stainless steel jerry cans. Original german design. Still have all four, but I did paint them red. I walked behind my Jeep one afternoon and was blinded by the glare (sorry to all the drivers I did it to).

Long winded way of saying, why doesn’t someone still make the for “WATER”?

 

Safety cans. Better than plastic. Cheaper than jerry cans. Cylindrical. Not cool enough for the insta or broverlander crowd. MSHA compliant (which is OSHA on steroids). They are my favorite can for all of those reasons.

 

EPA got involved to change the requirements for fuel cans a few years ago to minimize spillage of fuel.

I've got a couple of those EPA compliant abominations......I never spilled as much fuel as I do with those abortions.

I have recently replaced one of those plastic POS (seam split at the handle) with a metal Safety Can (2 gallon), use a funnel.......no more spilled fuel. Hmmmm...go figure.

 

The EPA compliance change several years ago was to reduce the vapors from escaping into the atmosphere as unburned hydrocarbons, not about keeping you from spilling gas. Unfortunately, most of the manufacturers made compliant filler nozzles that were not user friendly, causing us to leak gas down the side of our vehicles…

 

I stand corrected. I was under the impression it was to minimize spillage.

Either way, the current design is 5hit!!!!

Yes the EPA rule was to minimize vapor leakage. Unfortunately they did not have the wisdom to also require the gizmos to minimize leakage when used by a normal person in a normal manner.

I know they are hard to find in the US but Scepter Millitary Fuel Cans. Do not leak, no need to "burp", empty 5 gallons in ynder a munute. Safe to transport inside a vehicle.

It's not really the law that sucks, although that is an easy scapegoat. I think preventing the fuel you bought from escaping your jug is a good thing, regardless of what it does to the baby seals and endangered fish.

The problem is the implementation. Manufacturers seem incapable, or maybe just unwilling to design something that is actually user friendly that meets certain design criteria (basic design analysis 101).

I have a small can I use for my weedeater with a spout you pull in and it releases the fuel. Works really well actually, except that it has this stupid twist lock that broke the first use. Other than that, the actual auto seal mechanism and the spout work really well, and it's nice not you have to disassemble the spout assebmly in order to seal it up.

Yes.... but I now release a MUCH greater amount of vapors into the atmosphere via spillage when refueling my lawn equipment than I ever did before.

 

I only buy Justrite cans. Not sure if they are CARB whatever the hell that is, but they are very nice cans. I found out the hard way that I couldn’t even add gas to my truck in a pinch with my plastic cans. Would not work at all.
