1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

A U-haul is exactly what I'll be renting from Salinas to Fowler (2.5hrs each way) when I move later this year.

Really hoping it's a diesel versus gas motor when I rent one; Pacheco Pass is a bit of a steep climb.

 

I’ve had zero complaints about mine. Unless you’re a mechanic using it professionally everyday I don’t see the point in getting an expensive box.

 

unless it's changed u haul has never had a diesel option that I can remember.

Probably end up with a 6.0l LS. it's a dog but it'll get you there

 

Damn .... all that oil got stolen when my storage unit was robbed while I was van living a couple years ago

 

FWIW I have an older husky and it's better than my newer craftsman. The craftsman is very flimsy

 

Yeah them or penske. I think you can get a diesel in the 22' and 26' penske sizes. I had a 16' full to the brim and towing the taco with the ford V10. It did okay

 

my grandpa was a hoarder and had to stock up before the price of motor oil got too expensive

 

Yeah I'm pretty sure they're all gas.

Just hate to watch the needle on the gas gauge go down faster than the RPMs move up...

 

for all the hate the triton engines get (mostly due to neglect as far as I care) they seem to survive a lot of abuse and hard labor in those rental fleets

 

The ones they have right now are pretty okay quality from Trinity. They're no names, but they feel okay. The HF quality is getting damn good though, I bought one for my machinist job and debadged it

 

I think I got 7(?) MPG towing a 1st gen 4runner with my uncle's 6.0l CC 2500... that said I towed over vail pass and was giving her the beans in 3rd gear to keep it at 50 so I wasn't getting passed by the semis

Ahh see I'll be playing a mechanic and will need to use it every day


But I refuse to pay Dan box level prices. Hoping a middle of the road option will last me okay since it'll only be me in the new shop
