I finally figured out why there's the little plate under the AC controls with the shift pattern on it... that big red rocket thing doesn't have a shift pattern on the top. I guess thankfully the Subaru knob in here now has the same pattern. 61681577-B9E2-4B42-93E0-92442F3F035E.jpg

Back when I had my Isuzu pup I did pack myself and two friends in the cab once. The person in the middle had to lift their leg and put it on the passengers leg in order to get reverse. Fun times...

Once you start it's hard to reverse things.

The difficulty of finding that boot has triggered me multiple times.

Got a sewing machine? It's not too difficult to make one.

It's missing the base plate and clip to hold anything in. And I actually don't have a sewing machine or any skills to utilize one.

My buddy had a ranger in high school, whenever I was stuck with the middle I just took over shifting. Wasn't so bad just shifted whenever the clutch went down

Found this from @BassAckwards but it's a different console style.

So there's a metal rod spring thingy inside the leather of that boot at the bottom, which keeps it retained and in shape under the plastic. Everything I've found is just the leather cover and they expect you to have the old metal rod to insert yourself.

Edit: Granted the truck has bigger issues that I need to sort out first before that becomes priority...

When i installed my redline goods shift boot, i had to cut the old leather boot apart and reuse that wire piece to keep it in the right place. If you're missing that, you might try a salvage yard near you that has a single cab truck with the bench seat
