Bumpstops pricing

What makes bumpstops so expensive?

 

Custom molds for a very limited market.

Manufacturing is not a cheap endeavor until you get into mass quantities. People who've never worked in manufacturing tend to under value this effort.

 

Sounds about right, I didn’t know if it was the material they were using or the science or labor. Labor isn’t cheap that’s for sure

 

1. Science - determining the ideal spring rate under load; figuring out the shape to provide that spring rate; testing it.
2. Material - Machining the molds. Testing the molds.
3. Material - 2 component silicone or platinum rubber material is rather expensive. Raw materials to produce the rubber aren't cheap.
4. Recouping the cost of the design & capital investment in the molds over a rather limited sales volume.
5. Labor for all of the above.

 

Been tempted to use something like this (which i know others have done) on the ass end of my taco

How/where would you mount that? Sure, you'd save $$ on the bumpstop, but I feel like your savings would be lost on custom mounting brackets.

 

simple flat plate mounted on top of the leaf pack, and a single hole drilled through the frame side pad to mount the bumpstop to. maybe 10 bucks in materials.

 

Ok, so your plan is to flip the bumpstop to the frame and give it a strike plate on the leaf pack. Fair enough! You're right, it's probably only $10 in scrap to make the plates, assuming you have the tools to cut and drill thick steel plate.

 

You can do Fox air bumps for under $500 and never need a upgrade

 

100% overkill for 99% of the people on this forum.

 

So is 90% of the people running 2.5s. Lol. It's all about that bling factor tho. But it is a bumpstop option, figured I'd bring it up either way

 

I did Wheeler's Superbumps with a u-bolt flip for $175. Of all the things I've done to my truck, that wasn't one that took a lot of debate. Especially after getting well acquainted with the stock bricks! My only recommendation would be to go with the @ARCHIVE lo-pro pedestals as I found the Wheeler's eat up far too much travel for stock suspension.

 

I didn't know that made lo-pro mounts. I cut down my wheelers for just this reason.

 

Yep, they are even shorter than your cut-down version. Basically, 2 plates welded together. They made a world of difference for the 3 days I ran them before installing my Deaver U402's and 2.5 Kings.

I used the Archive Garage u-bolt flip (with the Archive bumps) when I installed my Icon Stage 4 kit, liking it so far!

I've heard some good things about the DuroBumps. I've been thinking about grabbing a pair for the 4runner.

 

I had them on my 5th gen and they were great.

 

I've got them front and back on my 3rd gen Tacoma. Highly recommend.
