Your wife sounds like an incredibly secure and freaky woman.

    Good for you

Getting tempted to quit my job just because it’s fucking with my training and diet and gains so much. All my lifts are starting to drop.

I think its funny you say that, I threatened to quit my job today.

Money isn’t worth much if you aren’t happy. Follow your passion. Whatever that may mean to you.

I’m trying to keep the “lifting is just a hobby” attitude and put money first but it is mentally hell to feel myself slipping like this

Both. One week I’ll be at a job 2 hours away working 10’s for 7 days in a row.

then for 2 weeks I’ll be 15 minutes from home but working 12 hour days 2 weeks straight. Then I’ll be on nights for a week. Then back to 2 hours away

just constantly new hours and job locations. Dealing with this and balancing time for the wife/newborn is a lot. I’m trying but it’s hard just to plan food and meal prep. Let alone get sleep in and somehow workout too. It’s rough mentally.

I feel like not being able to get into a consistent schedule ontop of this COVID bullshit where life can be up in the air in two seconds is a lot by itself, let alone when you’ve got a brand new kid and with strongman.

When I was at the end of my undergrad and the first partof my masters I was full time school, and worked 3 jobs 50-60 hours a week. Commute was minimum 45 minutes. I did some construction work and farm work I could get up and do at 3am if thats when I had the time.

I just kept telling myself it was the right move. And looking back graduating debt free and buying a home at 27 it was all worth it, but I probably would make different choices today.

    I feel for you man.

Make that money while you can! Not all about you these days... Even with that workload you can find ways to get in decent workouts.. not the 2 hr specialized ones you want but you are young and it all comes back to marathon not sprint. This is the time most stars fade away. Stick with it! Be well!

I get it...and this is a place to vent. But the shitty thing about being a grown ass man is setting priorities that leave things we enjoy by the wayside. Of course looking for a job that allows some more balance between
work, family, and the gym is totally reasonable. But maybe have a plan before you tell your boss you're quitting.

And remember, the work you put in, even if numbers dip, is still paying off in the future. Technique practice still helps, stalling even worse atrophy helps, and learning to fight through shit like this helps. It's easy to be focused, strong and in the zone when everything is going well; this is a chance to embrace the suck and learn.

    This too, shall pass man.

Like everyone else had said. This is a terrible decision.

Work pays bills, gym does not. And unfortunately, you chose a career path that isn’t the most conducive to making gains in the gym. You may actually benefit more from training less since you put a lot of strain on your CNS working on your feet and with your hands all day. I know I had to change up the way and amount I trained when I was working in the shop.

Maybe find something that isn’t as taxing on the CNS or as time consuming as the gym, change your training up for a bit, or just accept that work and providing for your wife and soon to be kid dictates you make the sacrifice.

I wouldn’t say changing your job is a terrible decision, nor is taking a job with less pay for more flexibility. Obviously walking out the door without a plan isn’t advisable.

You have to weigh what your values are and what your priorities are and make a calculated decision on whats best for you and your family.

But I’m part of the FIRE crowd and I’ve decided in no more than 5 years I’m retiring from desk work. In fact after this week its probably closer to 2-3 years. My advice is more anti-working in anything other than your passion. I’d encourage anyone, especially while they are young to set themselves up to make that choice to walk out the door any time you want and it not destroy your future.

I’m obviously not gonna quit without having somewhere to go. Just might take a minor pay cut but not necessarily a cut just less hours. But idk. Would be much easier if wasn’t trying to get skrong

To say having a manual labor job like welding isn’t conducive to your gym goals seems like bs to me. Jerry Pritchett works full time as a fabricator and competes at the highest level. It may help to not have to work but there are plenty of athletes that do.
