I just replaced mine a few hours ago -



When I popped off the old one, it still had tons of dust/dirt from Moab.

 

Mine sits around 150-180 all the time now with the cooler. Get it on asap. If anything it'll appreciate the new fluid to replace the half baked fluid.

 

Trans temps are very load sensitive. What happens when you turn off overdrive?

 

That is OEM

 

Temp usually goes down if I turn over drive off.

 

As long as the torque converter is fully locked up, having overdrive on should be the same as having it off with regards to fluid temps. Its when OD is on but the torque converter isn't locked that you get high fluid temps.

In town I tend to run with OD off if my speeds are below 50 mph.

 

thats typical. More fluid is moving. It's often smart if you're going up a grade for instance to kick it off if temps start climbing. Or towing.

 

I'd agree, but since I replaced the spare tire crossmember with two crossmembers instead of one I wasn't too worried, especially as far back as the new crossmember is. Any reason specifically to go dimple die boxed sides aside from weight savings, and is road salt a concern for you?

Best investment I ever made in my garage.

 

I'm not making the box sides full length and the strength of a dimple died part is greater than that of just the flat sheet. Road salt isn't a concern really anymore, I don't drive the truck except for wheeling. It stays in the driveway 99% of the time.

 

Gotcha, makes sense What thickness material? I know DD material can be stronger and lighter but I feel those benefits kinda are negated once you hit 3/16" or so no?

 

Made a little progress on my lunch break on the trans cooler install. Need to get fluid before I mess with the hoses:

 

Washed the sin, I mean mud, off. Even though it’ll just be back next weekend.

 

Spent 50$ on it, in lieu of bigger tires to come
