Hello, all! I'm new to the truck world but have been buying and modding my cars for 25 years or so. My Barcelona Red TRD OR 4x4 with a manual trans arrives June 1st and I'm already making a lists of things I want to tinker with and mods to add. The first couple are the usual suspects of a TRD grille and RSG Rock Sliders. I will probably leave the ride height alone for a little while to get a feel for the truck in it's stock form. My plans for it are weekend travel vehicle for my gf and our 2 dogs to some places off the paved beaten path. I don't imagine any "real" true off roading for a while but who knows as this is my first true truck purchase!

The silver/black TRD OR wheels that will be on it stock are certainly decent looking but I really really love the TRD matte black wheels I see on the Tacoma TRD Pros and the 4runner TRDs. I just learned that those are two separate wheel sizes and designs. The Tacoma TRD wheels in 16s *seem* to as hard as hens teeth to find in matte black (I'll never again have a set of gloss black wheels) and the 17s of the TRD 4runner design seem to be more available and probably just a little better looking in my opinion. The rub (no pun intended) is that I would like to keep the costs down by still using my stock tires for a while but if I go with the 4runner 17s that isn't possible. I'm trying to do the math in my head of what I could possibly recoup selling just the stock wheels or the stock wheels and tires vs the Taco or 4R TRD wheels.

    Any suggestions?

I sold the original tires from my 2020 OR for $400, took them off a couple days after purchase and they sold in a couple days. I kept the stock wheels and put falken wildpeak at3w on, still all terrain but a little more bite.

Not really the same situation but that’s what I was able to get out of the tires only last September.

Well maybe I can get around $1K or so for the wheels/tires together. Enough to pay for the new wheels.....just have to buy new tires at that point.

Stock take offs in my region, do not go for $1000. Around $500 typically.

If you want to save money in the long run, use your stock setup while you save for your preferred wheel and tire combo.

One large $$$ factor on making wheel/tire swaps isn’t the wheels or tires themselves, it’s the mounting, dismounting costs. And toss in Tpms variables, and you’ll quickly start piling up costs.

    Ask me how I know.

I got 600 for my OR wheels and tires with about 400 miles and the TPMS sensors pulled. I went with the 4Runner SEMA wheels and 265/70/17 BFG KOs. Just a bit more tire, no rubbing or other contact issues. I have it up one inch in the front, making it level. I really like the look of these wheels and the setup works well. I really like a red/black combo but it’s your truck, do what appeals to you. Mechanically this setup works well without problems to solve. It’s also light enough it won’t kill your milage or power. Yes, a lot of people go this route, but it just looks good every time.

Forgive my ignorance, but what are "beadlocks"? Is that the model name for the wheel? Do you have another pic you can post of just your wheel? I'm comparing the two wheels side by side and can now start to see some differences. Thanks!

I sold my stock '21 OR wheels and tires for 500 without center caps with ~3k miles on them. Someone stole all 4 caps for reasons I cannot understand. W/ caps they go for 650-700 in my area. Keep in mind that if you go with the new (21+) 4runner pro wheels you're going to have to bore the centers to properly seat the rear wheels to the hubs.

How intense of a process is that for a tire shop to do and ballpark on the cost? I’ve never had to consider anything like that.
