Just bolt-in COs. Which is why I asked if this was an LT-specific headache, and it seems the answer is yes.

And yeah, that's why I went with Icon...you just see attention to detail there that other manus don't have.

Talk about some jerry rig micky mouse bullshit!

I know what I am never doing to my rig...

That is hosed, however like the one guy said see if you can pound it back, but you are going to need it bracketed and brace. the metal fatigue has hosed that bracket completely and it will just bend again, unless braced.

It's not that vital. What is vital is setting the bump stop to contact before the energy of bottoming out blows the shock out the top of the coil bucket. That wouldn't have happened if the bumps were set correctly. Even without cutting that piece out the coil bucket WILL BEND if the shock is being used as a bump stop. That is exactly what causes motor mount failure also, the shock towers bend in under impact and squeeze the motor like a nut cracker pushing the motor mounts into the frame. OP check those too dood.

This is not dumb. Its part of the LT installation. The OP just had some bad luck. If you dont understand about setting up LT suspension then please dont comment about cutting things up.

Here are the gussets that Solo Motorsports makes for this if you dont want to make your own. I bought the kit and it felt dumb for paying that much for a little bit of metal but it saved a lot of time.

    ...Umm...
I'll post more pics as soon as I can.

But here is the thing, for me I can see that bracing those coil buckets is a must, but I was thinking that just the three bolt brace would be enough. I have really no need to do another shock, and i'm so easy on my vehicles that I don't think this would ever happen again once its fixed.

But how hard do you guys think it'll be to bang that coil bucket back into shape?
I'm not going to do it, I'm going to take it back to the dealership that I purchased it from to see if I can get them to do it. My line of thinking is that they sold it this way (and they are a good size, real dealership) without even looking at it or having an inspection done. Which is a huge problem, not only because it screwed me who bought it, but because its not a safe thing, for whoever might have bought it. Anyway, your thoughts!

As for the shock hoop its not a bad thing to have since it braces the coil bucket. I ran one for awhile before I got my second shock. Total Chaos sells it along with the coil over tower gussets.

So you bought it used with the LT kit on there? If so they should be liable if it was bought recently but I can almost assure you they will blame it on you the customer. Hopefully they take care of it but dealers arent known for repairing damage like that and welding stuff back together. If they do then thats a first.

Second option is for your local fab shop take care of it. They should be able to bend it all back together and gusset the heck out of it.

Doesn't have to do with understanding.

having worked on airframes on f-14s I think I have some knowledge regarding metal stress fatigue and Metallurgy.
My point merely is fact. And Metallurgy, if you know anything about it is not to be taken lightly. Especially AFTER it has been bent. You can't just pound it back, and hope that the BUMP stop will eliminate and further stress.

So if you don't understand, then...

Hope it wasn't sold as-is...regardless if which route you go, I'd definitely gusset/brace it.
