Honestly it came like that when I bought it as a CPO.

I used a foaming spray, that comes with a plug so that you can properly foam up the (condenser?) from the drain pipe.

Any auto store will have it.

You specifically want the one with the rubber bit on the end, I tried another where I sprayed it in while the fan was running, and couldn't get it where it needed to go.

 

I believe this is what I used.

"Kilma" is another really good brand to use.

Some people recommend to turn off the circulation maybe 20-30 minutes before arriving at your destination. After you get rid of the smell in the first place. This will help prevent future odors from developing.

 

Exactly this. If you keep recirculating air, you'll end up with that musty smell. Every so often I'll just turn off the recirculating feature and put the fan onto lowest setting with AC on. This lets fresh dry air pass through and prevents any mold build up.

 

This can happen to most cars if you don't ever use the heater and run the A/C most of the time. the best fix I found is to run the heater once in a while on the hottest setting. just for a few minutes at a time. I'm on my 5th tacoma and never had an issue with this. but I did in other vehicles.

Any vehicle with an AC system is prone to it. You just have to turn off recirc here and there. It's dumb that Toyota set recirc to be default when you turn on the AC, but it is what it is.

 

I've never had a vehicle do it, other than the Tacoma. I usually just spray Lysol on the intake on the cowl. I should try the foaming cleaner though

 

The key is to turn off ac before you get home and keep the fan on without recirc on to dry out the coils. youre welcome

 

I've never owned a vehicle where recirculation was the default. Very "interesting" choice, Toyota.

I turn mine off about 2 or 3 minutes before I get home to park.

If it's hotter than hell where you live, just turn off the ac/recirc and run normal air to dry it out. Started doing this and didn't have an issue.

 

When the AC is turned on, the AC condenser will get wet with condensation from the humid air passing through it, if you turn the AC off and run the fan for 10 minutes as you approach your destination the moisture will evaporate and mold won’t grow on it.

I've noticed it, but mostly when I first start using it for the year. It seems to go away after that. Haven't noticed it in a few weeks. Noticed it at the start of last summer as well, but it also went away.
