That's a bummer that it hits your latch. I would cut it forward of the latch for the horizontal piece and under the latch for the vertical, then reverse the corner piece making a square notch but keeping your same dimensions. Does that make sense?
You would only need two additional corner pieces to achieve this.

I've got the 4ft ARB awning sitting around that I might mount off of the back. The only thing I haven't figured out is if it will make using the latches/stuffing the tent a pain. Right now I've got a 6ft CVT on the right side and have to work around it to make sure i get everything stuffed in. Sadly, it also won't match my CVT (grey vs black cover ugh).

I used it on my topper system, but only really deployed it like 5-10x out of 100+ nights camping. Nice to have in the rain, but totally useless in the snow.

I figured if it's shitty enough outside I'll just cook inside the camper vs deploying a rear awning. A 270 is nice, but you can't partially deploy (from what I understand), and thus you need to spend a bunch more time and have more space to get it working.

 

As I understand it, the problem with mounting an awning on the rear is the protrusion of the tent latches. I very much want the option of mounting something like a 4’ or 6’ (moving it from side to rear when parked) and adding a bug net “room” or even a full room. When I get mine next week I’m also getting two brackets, and I’m going to see if there’s a way to extend the brackets to clear the latches. I’ll post updates.

 

There are a few different mounting points/heights on the brackets, you might be able to configure the awning low enough to clear (and adjust your rear door opening amount so that it doesn't hit).

I will say that moving the awning from side to rear is going to be more hassle than it's worth. Maybe you can modify some of the quick disconnect brackets that some of the other companies are making to help with that?

 

I'm still not even close to getting a SP.. but things like this (the rear awning) are things I'm trying to think about ahead of time and prep for. I ultimately want to do the same.. add a 4-5ft awning off the back for shade/rain while looking, etc. but also possibly utilize it as a room like you mentioned @RangeRick.

If the clearance with the latches and everything is an issue, and requires some engineering and manufacturing of a special mount, etc.. I was going to come up with and make one for myself. at that point.. I'd make extras for others as well if it turns into a bigger thing..

 

Thanks. Yup, makes sense. I'll see what I come up with. If I have to cut pieces I may just shorten the whole thing. I'm going to try not to order anything more. Want to get back out on the road!

My X-1 is finally “plug and play”, got the rear view camera on the driver side pillar with a disconnect right inside the wire gland, and the Anderson Powerpole connectors by Powerwerx on the passenger side:

 

That's what I ended up going with, 2 100W panels. There is room on the top of the X1 for 4 panels if I want to expand. Amazon has them for next day delivery.

The other flex panels I saw were Rich Solar and Newpowa. Not much for reviews about those, but Renogy is well regarded and their panels have some nice features.

I noticed one thing in your video which SP could improve, ONE! They should add a hand strap hanging from the center top of the tent at the back, not attached to the tent but hanging inside the frame where it closes inside the tent and doesn't hang out when closed. Needs to be black. This would allow you to grab and pull down without pulling on tent canvas as shown in the video. The logic for this is that camp breakdown always involves dirty hands and pop up canvas is a bitch to clean. I'm gonna be the guy who accidentally grabs that pretty gray tent canvas right after I load up my sooty BBQ grill or greasy MTB.

 

Selling my all black X-1 soon (3rd Gen LB) if anyone out there is interested...

 

since it has t slots, there it would be easy to add one of those jeep grab bar strap, but I’m not tall enough to reach that high. Think you’d need something hanging down
