So would this be all one needs to install one of the pre-build tunes you offer or a tune someone else offers?

Yes. vF flash kit comes with the stock tunes. You would need the tune pack or tunes from someone else assuming you dont want to make a tune yourself.

Okay I think I see the options here.

    1) $349 for the bundle then $390 for tune pack. $739 total roughly
    2) $349 for bundle then $300 for KDMAX, or similar tune. $649 total and if they updated it I could install it myself or put back to stock
    3) $300 for KDMAX or similar installed by someone else but any time you want to update or go to stock you need to go back to them.

    Am I seeing this correctly?

I’ll point out getting tuned several times will cost more in the long run and you will want updates. There will be more tunes to come and that junk will add up @3 bills a lick. Purchase the bundle and save a bill or two.

The $300 for KDMax is only if you have one of their individuals install the tune. Just for the files its $100. So about $450 for OVpack and KDMax all together.

If I already have a Tactrix cable, what will I need for the KDMAX tune?

I looked at the OVTune website to purchase the cable/software but it doesn’t show the cable or packaging. One video on YouTube shows a nice little case with the dongles and cable in it. Is that still what is included? Thanks.

The software bundle comes with the cable and software needed. Then all you may need is a tune pack (if you wish to make tunes yourself).

Do you know if these user created files are able to be used by Open Flash Tuner handheld users? I don’t have VF Tuner, just the old OFT handheld. They are .bin files, not .vft or .p5f. Can they be converted?

I’m sure Mat-@OVTune is the only one who can do it. Unless there is a way with my Pro Tuner software?

Edit--Just looked and do not see a way to make a .bin file.

Dammit. I’ve been on 2.0 “final” since it came out and it’s great and worth every penny, but I’m getting more and more curious every day to try out some of these amazing sounding vf tuner user tunes. Sounds like there are even more game changers being created.

I really can’t see Matt even touching user created tunes to modify, convert, or distribute them. That just wouldn’t make sense at all. Imagine that can of worms!

I wonder if there is a short cut for an OFT HH user to try out the vf tuner files (without having to purchase a whole new tune software package etc)...?...

EDIT: I guess that since you are a pro tuner customer, maybe there’s a possibility Matt would teach you how to create .bin files? That way you could distribute your tunes to some other existing ov tune customers. But that would be between you and Matt... ;)

Are any tunes yet available for 2.7 engines? If they are available has anyone with a 2.7 DCSB tried retuning? I'm wondering if a retune alone would get enough extra out of this engine to make it worth the $$.

All the files are technically binary files, but they're each encoded/encrypted a little different. Do not rename the file to match whatever you need. I.e. don't rename a .p5f to.vfc just so you can flash it. It will probably flash, but everything will be screwy.

I appreciate those guys offering the service to flash the tune but I wanted the ability to do it myself at anytime on a whim if i needed to go back to stock for some reason or to bring it in to the dealer for service. I already have the Tactrix cable. I know I need to buy the tune files from Paparee for $100, but what else do I need to purchase? VFTuner from OVTune? Or is it not required? Is the VFTuner what unlocks the ECU? I just don’t want to buy something not needed if I don’t have to.

VFTuner is what you use to unlock your ECU, edit maps for unlocked ECUs, and to flash

Don't worry about flashing to stock when going to the dealer. They can't verify it has been tuned. If you want to tune, you'll need to purchase the vF software. After that, just pay Papa for his tune pack. Otherwise, if you want to make your own tweaks, then pay for a tune pack on the vF website.
