Depends on the cost. Ridgeline is $$$$ but has no competition. This, soon to be the Ford, sounds like there's some competition now.

Objectively - a ridgeline or unibody truck would be way better for my practical use. :notsure:

That color really works on the SC, I see that it has an in bed coolor along with bed cubbies. Cool features, but not something I need in a vehicle. I like this Santa Cruz but I don't object to the Riegeline either. I wouldn't chose either vehicle over a midsize PU, as a pragmatic truck shopper I'd be content dailying a single cab fullsize 4x4 dually.

Another El Camino lookalike similar to the Honda Ridgeline except an even shorter 4 ft “bed”. Hard pass.

I would love a truly compact truck like this - it has enough space for me and I've always preferred smaller vehicles over larger.

The 4' bed is fine. I use my pickup bed about once a month for home and yard projects.

However the deal breaker for me is that it needs to be body on frame with a true low range transfer case. My truck needs to be able to tackle mild to moderate forest service roads on hiking & camping trips.

Looks like the Maverick is similar to the Ranger in width and cab height. However, the cab floor is closer to the ground due to unibody construction.

There is another picture of a Maverick floating around with it parked next to a new Mustang and it was roughly the same length.

    I posted this in September:

It's quite possible the Maverick will have a roomier backseat than the Ranger.

I found the picture I was looking for, you can clearly see its not much longer than a Mustang which comes in around 188".

To be honest, the Santa Cruz and the Maverick appear to be the size of truck we wanted more than the Tacoma. Our primary use is hauling scuba gear to/from the beach, and parking is a bitch. Our first Gen Tacoma was better in that regard than our 3rd Gen. I really like our 3rd Gen, but if these were out and there was a used market, they would have been heavily considered. I don’t haul heavy shit (outside of scuba gear which actually does get heavy), we don’t tow, I don’t really care about 4x4.

As to why do we need a truck instead of an SUV/crossover? Just remember there are two types of scuba divers; those who piss in their wetsuits, and those who lie and say they don’t . Admittedly I’m a 3rd type as a drysuit diver but still rather have scuba gear in a bed.

Very good video. With a 2.5 turbo, 275hp & 5000lb towing cap. it is interesting, and with paddle shifters and the heated steering wheel makes it somewhat -1.jpg unique. But why can't they make the cab/bed meet at a 90 like most trucks? It's style is similar to a R/L, Brat, El Camino etc and it is something that will likely get scratched up or damaged or just be a hinderance during loading/ unloading. Am I the only one that is bothered by this?

They probably did this do to the unibody construction. It’s hard to get the chassis that strong without increasing the weight unless they have that there
