I have a Campbell hausefeld and I only use it for staples. It will leave a wide mark from the drive when I use just nails in it.

Giving the new Laguna lathe a workout. Before and after. It’s about 8” in diameter.

All positive for now. It’s very heavy and well built.

    Some projects I just finished

Hallway tree, seat opens and is divided for shoes, most was made from wood I had already

Floating shelf for above the TV, also just finished putting the flooring on the wall behind it, turned out nice I think. Then made the blanket ladder from the cut offs lol

Dentil moulding was made myself also to match what was on the tv stand we already have, close enough

Top isn’t perfectly flat because I don’t have a planer, but whatevs. Just some water based poly with some light sanding, I intended for this to be able to get knocked around and easily refinished in the future, without worrying about stain.

Anyone ever make a cupcake tree for a wedding? I am in the process of making one for my daughter. Can’t decide if I want to make it to be able to be disassembled or not. How would you fasten each platform to the spindles? Dowels, threaded inserts, glue...?
If it is put together to be permanent, would there be a concern about the platforms warping?? I have already glued up 5-6” walnut boards for each platform.
I found this picture online for reference.

Could you make the centre 'spindle' a series of pieces that capture the rings ?

ie bottom platter fits onto rabbeted shoulder on top of bottom spindle segment , next segment stacks onto spindle segment below it with round tenon into hole drilled in top on bottom spindle segment , etc

I've only done a few cake stands. They were doweled and glued together. It just consisted of a large cookie on a smaller diameter log

I would just glue everything up if it was a one time use piece. I planned on bringing it home and busting it up to use the walnut in small box projects and turning blocks. A friend of my daughter may want to buy it though.

Building off @OZ-T I'd drill a hole thru each piece (platform and spindle) to accept a threaded rod (3/8-1/2" should do it) and then rabbet on each platform to let the spindles settle in.
Once you've threaded each piece onto the the threaded rod you can tighten it up with two wrenches and it should be pretty tight but still dismantlable. On the bottom platform you could even pick up a lazy susan hardware kit off Amazon so the entire cake can spin a little bit too.

Going to drive 130 miles to buy some walnut boards. I’m not sure how much my 2020 Tacoma can haul. I’m buying 260 board feet of dry walnut. My calculations say that would be 65 1” x 6” x 8’ long boards. Overloaded ?? I’ve hauled lumber a lot but never really knew the board foot amount.

    A thing or two...
Using @Pixeltim's number, that's 845 pounds. I think the "load rating" for the bed is 600#, but you'll be fine hauling that. I've carried a literal ton (2000#) of pellets in the bed of my truck before when I lived in a house with a pellet stove.
