No. I was quoting my GAWRating. The last time I weighed my truck the front axle was 2520 and rear was 2980. Total 5500. That included trailer tongue weight as well.

 

Your truck's VSC system may not be able to cope if you take a corner too quickly.

 

Interesting. I would say I’m a little surprised how quickly that added up but I believe it. If I do anything to my truck I’ll probably just keep my 265s but maybe do like 1.5 lift, then add aluminum skids and sliders. I’ll never wheel my Taco like my old POS XJ but I also got a lot of wheeling out of my system so I just enjoy exploring now.

What’s crazy are all those overland builds, more like “overload” build. I did all that stuff with my two previous Jeeps and at a certain point you just have a diminishing return. Way too much weight, means horrible MPG and less power, means bring more fuel which means even more weight, weight means getting stuck, more likely to break things and so on. Finally it got to the point where I just took certain stuff off, left all the extra parts and tools at home besides the most basic items. Now I just rock a RTT and Yeti cooler, everything else is just minimal camping gear. I decided it’s easier to have a contingency plan with communications, gear to sustain a stay or hike out in an emergency and then just go light and fast.

I’d be curious to see what other trucks and sets ups weigh also.

 

I’ve posted this before. This was on my old wheel setup. 19 Limited DCSB with 33’s, factory tonneau cover and steps. Haven’t thrown it back on the scales in a while.

 

Running 1K lbs over stock is like losing 100hp.

Did someone say Overloaded tacos? Great, you had to mention GVWR! It doesnt seem to weigh that much or handle bad when driving, lots of power and maneuvering, but then I’ve always driven smaller pickups and Im used to them I guess. Now I am interested in weighing it for the kicks, I also occasionally tow a 20-foot camper trailer loaded down like this, and yeah, gas mileage goes way down but that’s expected.

 

My 2020 trd off road was 4800
That is with driver, full of fuel, car seats and other bs but no passengers.
Truck was stock as far as wheels, tires, and other add ons.

 

I drove over a road side truck scale in Oregon a few weeks ago and came in at 7200lbs.

Loaded up with 2 people and 2 dogs (~450lbs), full tank of gas, shell, RTT, 2x 33" spare tires, 5 extra gallons of fuel, 15 gallons of water, and camping gear for a week.

I was honestly shocked at the weight but it does explain my 13mpg average.

 

No, probably the very last thing on my list of things to do in my lifetime.

I’ll definitely go when the tanks are empty. 110 gallons = ~ 900lb
Plus 20 gallons of bleach for soft washing = ~200lb

 

Just my .02 but these are going to be over weight when they’re built up like this. Really no big deal as long as you compensate. Upgrade suspension to account for extra weight, realize it’s going to take a greater distance to stop and handling will be affected. Gears or tune with bigger tires. Gas mileage just is what it is. Almost everything you do to these will require something else to counter it.

 

Oddly enough that is not a requirement here in Ca though it is a good idea to keep an eye on. I really should weigh my tow rig someday as I'm sure with car trailer attached and a car on it I'm over my GVWR.

 

I live in CA too and I’m an auto tech. Don’t get me started on all the taxes and laws BUT I’m also surprised out of all the insane laws we have there isn’t a state safety inspection. It’s crazy the things I see come through my work, I probably see 1 vehicle every 3-4 months that’s so bad I won’t even test drive it. And to think they’re navigating the roads with that thing...

 

Were they just going to be for looks? A little extra weight is way better than a rock through a rocker panel or oil pan if you were actually planning on using them.

 

Yep agreed i wouldnt take anything off my truck as is. My skids and sliders have been rattled canned over and over from trail gashes. I wanted a winch but knowing now what my truck weighs i think im at my stopping point

 

Id be curious how yours weigh. My main reason for weighing is to figure out what trailer i can tow. Mainly wanted to stay under GVWR for legal reasons. Ive read that some states will give you a ticket for going over GVWR

 

But which part of Detroit?

 

If you check out Trail Recon, you'll see he's constantly overweight on his vehicles. Yes, he has upgraded suspension parts, but still. He also daily drives his Jeep.
