I beg to differ. I have H9's in my Silverado. They are better than the factory lights and way better than HID's I ran for a while but the LED lights in my Taco are hands-down a better headlight. I'm basing this on a drive I make between my home in the city to a cabin my family owns in the mountains; I make that drive once or twice a month, generally at night on the same mountain roads (Hwy 38) and I can see a lot better with the headlights in my Taco than I can in my Silverado.

YMMV but for anyone who is shopping for a Taco and wondering if the upgraded headlights are worth it, well it's my opinion that they are.

Get them. Unless you live in London, the upgrade in everyday, none blizzard weather will out weigh the "downside" of the higher Kelvin light. Also, read up on yellow light vs blue light more. Also, how light itself works. I think if you do, things like "cut through" and "throw" will mean as much as "magic"...

Since you can get the OEM lights from the dealership, why don’t they sell the harness we need to make the new LEDs work? I saw that someone was making one on here. Just curious.. if it’s a option (add on) that can be done at the dealership, what is being used to convert them?

They are available for crash replacement from dealer. I imagine the whole harness is different and may not be a part # specific from the dealer. I bought a 6 month OEM LED set plus harness from a guy turning his 2018 back in on lease. installed them on my 2017

I think others have already answered this, but yes. The factory LED Headlights are way better than any aftermarket LED headlight or retrofit kit. For one thing the light on the Factory LED's are very well-focused yet not blinding to on-coming traffic.

The non pro LEDs have a chrome strip outside of the LED driving light. I bought a used set of 2020 OEM LEDs where the guy had the PS "TRD" and the non pro DS. I had kevin of TC lighting de-chrome the DS light. I believe OP is upset that the actual light and reflectors are " chrome", not the trim.

False equivalency. The difference between a halogen bulb and an LED is more like a straight blade vs a partially serrated one. It does just as well in most cases, better in some, and worse in others.

But sure, I'm a luddite because I don't think LED's are an earth shattering "must have" revelation.

Could not agree more with this. Went from driving an 02 f150, to a 2011 jeep wrangler, and now a 23 Tacoma. This is my first vehicle with LED projectors and they are seriously impressive. Super bright at what they are aiming at, but the cut off of the projection is so defined. I love these things.

It’s not a dealer addon. It’s a factory option package. The harness is different for LED trucks vs halogen trucks.

Some dealerships have installed led “bulbs” in the halogen projectors and marketed it as an upgrade which is super shady. At least that’s easy to fix with a halogen bulb though.

Are LED headlights worth the trouble

Not for me. I wanted the LED's but my truck didn't come with them. Am I going to spend $1600.+ dollars and a lot of time to buy and install factory LED's when I can't even watch the little light dance they do because I'm the one driving the truck?

    Nope.

If you have a trd/limited model, oem led is an excellent option. For us sr/sr5 owners the harness is different and if you want to go oem you have to purchase a different/ more expensive harness. I went with morimoto on my sr5, had them for a year and they’ve held up really well, drl and turn signal are extremely bright, beam pattern is also excellent, however they must be adjusted as they aim down from the factory. Alpharex headlights look great and have a cool start sequence, but alpharex cannot design proper headlight optics for some reason. For literally every single of the nova series projectors on all vehicles they make them for, not just the Tacoma, they all have the improperly designed hot spot with a giant unfocused blob in the middle resulting in over intense foreground light. They also make the reflector design that resemble the look of oem, but those bleed a ton of light above the beam pattern due to poorly designed reflectors. They are however probably the coolest looking headlights you can get, that’s why they’re so popular and people rave about them so much over YouTube and you see them on almost every truck on Instagram. Imo oem is the safest choice followed by morimoto xb, you can also get xb’s in an amber drl if that’s your cup of tea

I have LED bulbs in my 2020 OEM SR headlights. Going on 4 years in June. The bulbs have a nice clean cut off line. Driving on dark AZ roads, they have been a good choice. I bought bulbs for low/ high beam and running lights. Less than $50 for all. :notsure:
