    Wow! Now THAT'S a splitter!

I'll be dragging out my 30 year old Harbor Freight beater splitter soon.. noticed a 100'+ sycamore fell during the last big blow, and is perched perfectly on the creek bank. Easy peasy. It will make most of our next winter firewood supply.

    Good Morning folks :hattip:.
Deb had our grand daughter over yesterday for a cooking day. They made Beef stew(they don't like vegetables so no peas and only a small amount of carrots :() their way, and short ribs in the insta-pot. That's all I can smell in the house. We had the beef stew for dinner and it was good all except for lack of peas and more carrots. We will be having the short ribs tonite. Every now and again Deb gets the bug to try cooking different things and gets her partner in crime over to help... and of course I am the guinea pig to eat the food (only once was it so bad I wouldn't eat it) and it is pretty good.
Have a great day folks and be safe.

Are you related to my son. LOL Every larger yard project we have starts with him telling me to rent a bobcat.

Going to finish the shed ramp install today. I must have measured wrong but I was 2in off on the height of the ramp. Just another life lesson in build the ramp in place not in the garage. As with every mistake there are ways to fix it. I found the solution but I am off to Home Depot at 8 this morning tp pick up an 8ft 4X6. This will be an inexpensive lesson in life. The extra board is $28 and I needed another box of screws at $9.

I do have to put another coat of stain on the ramp, in my plan all along, then attach the anti skid treads so pictures will be next week.

Question about gas for a John Deere mower. Can I run regular pump gas or should I treat the engine as a smaller mower engine and use the pre packaged gallon gas for 4 stroke engines?

Morning fellas, last full day with our oldest daughter and grandson. After tomorrow we probably won’t see them for a year! They leave tomorrow morning and our 16 month old granddaughter comes for me to watch at noon. Grandad is going to be a tired fella, wouldn’t trade it for the world though!67BE9346-9977-472B-9F52-A360D5577916.jpg

I use mid grade (89 octane) ethanol-free gas in my John Deere.
I'm sold on ethanol free gas for anything that may sit for awhile.
I just buy it at the gas station in town.

    And again...???

Pre packaged gas... for smaller mower engines?

I have a Briggs and Stratton powered mower I have been abusing, trying to kill it to justify an upgrade, and I've never put anything but pump gas in it for fifteen years. Never even heard of using anything but pump gas.

Is John Deere selling "special" gas now to be used in their products? Another reason to drive a Massey...

There is a lot to be said about Grand kids. I hated being a Dad (I was the disciplinarian and enforcer) but that all changed with my first Grand child. Now with 5 and the oldest is 21 (yea I'm that old ) and the youngest is 13, I still love them and enjoy being around them. They are all local so we get to see them a lot. Not rushing any of them, but I am hoping to be around for some Great Grand kids :woot:.
Enjoy the day Tim and cherish every moment. Have a great day.

    Good morning all,

12 degrees this morning but the sun is out and it is supposed to warm up for 30 hours then the next snow storm rolls in.

I am watching a neighbors house and feeding (cleaning cat litter box) for them and noticed the Mother-n-law suite was cold. They are in the UP at his dads funeral, I had to call and disturb them, the boiler for that part of the house was not pumping - too much air in the line. I had to take a hose and release the air out through the downstairs garage. Found out this happens a lot in that zone - I suggested they add a air release valve on the return line so it would not burden the pump and keep the flow of hot water running. For some reason that is the line new water from the well comes into, I assume the well pump is bringing in air. I could go on to issues I see warrant some repairs, their basement/garage is 90 degrees due to the two boilers running constantly to keep the house at 68. Granted it is a upscale log home but come on now. I did find out they do not have pex but copper pipes and they are buried in concrete in the floor between the trusts - WTH. Not my problem and not my heating bill...

I am drooling over the hard woods you guys are removing, what I wouldn't do for the fire wood and the furniture potential some of those pieces present.

Have a great Sunday, be safe

Hey everyone... I'm thinking that between sips of your morning coffee you might have some sympathy for this thread I started.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/steps-too-close-to-be-useful.717580/

Getting old isn't for the faint of heart, and we could all use some hacks to make getting old easier. If you have any ideas I'd love to hear them. Otherwise I'm going to have to build something myself to make my nerf bars useful.

Maybe Mike might have something in mind. My suggestion would be to find a metal fabricator in your area and see if they can build the extension you need to fit the current hardware? That would be my first step after contacting the original manufacture to see if they have anything.

I know not much help but a few ideas.

    Little project.

Have lots of rods on my boat deck.
So made a rod holder to see if it will work and not
    Interfere with my casting.
Give me more room to walk around without worrying
    about stepping on the rods.
If it works fine, if not.
    Ain’t cost me a dime..

I had a pair of the Westins https://www.westinautomotive.com/e-series-3-nerf-step-bars on my 07 and they were good for my short wife to use for steps. I ordered Rhino Dominator D1 side steps with full length drop steps for the new 21 Tacoma. The wife is 5' 1" and needs the step to get in easier. Hope this gives you some ideas.

Yeah, I've thought about getting new steps that are usable, but I'm really not much of a fan of throwing away perfectly good stuff if I can figure out or buy a slight modification that makes them functional. I like the look of my nerf bars, so I'd like to make them useful.

Take a look at the stock Predator steps. They aren't huge, but do stick out, and my wife likes them - not that she's often in the truck. In many cases, guys around you have taken them off for sliders, and will (literally) give them away. I got mine for the price of a breakfast.

I appreciate the thoughts, but I suspect my steps are the "stock" from the dealer steps. The truck is a Baja Series and lifted two inches from the factory, so height is more of the issue than them sticking out.

And it seems everyone is making the assumption my wife is the main problem...lol. Hell, she has two very mobile artificial knees and can get into the truck better than I do even though she is seven inches shorter than me.

I have another Taco, same year access cab, and a 3/4 ton GMC. I bought nerf bars for the GMC and they work perfectly as steps. I bought the same nerf bars for the other Taco and they are useless because they are so close to the body. But the truck is closer to the ground so not a problem...

Maybe we both misunderstood. The Predator is a factory step bar, that does stick out a bit. And lower, which is why so many take them off. It's factory standard spacing, so if you found an Access cab set, they bold right on.
Also, gives you an idea of something you might weld to your existing.
