I know a couple people thinking about trading in Tacomas for either Fords or Chevys, not cause they don't like the truck, it's just that with such poor gas mileage you may as well be able to actually haul something big in the bed.

yeah I got a Z71 tahoe in 07 and got thirteen thousand of the sticker $13,000, so I traded my 04 ex cab trd for it and it has been the worst mistake I have ever made. The tire monitors have never worked, I have had the engine find some sort of false neutral on the highway while the revs go up and down then all the instruments just shut off. Every light on the dash went out, I coasted to the side of the road turned it off and back on, everything fine. Service dept said yeah sometimes you just got to re-boot the computer, then a cv joint failed at 32,000 and again at 70,000. Had a number of recalls on of which was the heater for the washer fluid overheating, so there fix was just to unplug it, but my two favorites are when it gets cold (below 40) and the windows sound like nails on a chalk board, so loud that I had them take apart the doors and wax where the glass makes contact, which they sent me a bill for, which I threw in the trash. Last but not least is when the window cleaners turn on by themselves and don't stop until you "re-boot", the wipers spray and cover the entire windshield so there is no way to see. My dealer is about an hour each direction from my house and I've spent a total of about 7 hours waiting in the Enterprise for my Extended warranty loaners. If I had not purchased the extra 100,000 warranty I would have $10,000 easy into this POS. I had two, two hour conversations with my local GM reps, both of whom were located in Canada, and took down every gripe that I had, but when I asked what compensation I was to receive they told me to send a letter in care of General Motors, po box 1000, Detroit Mich.
The sticker on this car was $56,000 I paid $43,000. For a piece o garbage. Government Motors failed for a reason, you and I and every person who reads this helped bail out that incompetent whale of a business. I am sorry to be a hater good luck with you new truck and all but you're posting it on a web-site that supports Yota's, didn't you find it a little convenient that the floor mat issue happened in the same time frame of the GM bailout, and in every car you've ever sat it if you push your feet forward and down against the mat it bunches up under the pedals. Try it, while in park. Sorry again for griping thought it would make me feel better, it didn't. It's not as easy to lemon law something as the dealer says before you sign the papers, anyone got any experience with it pm me.

I guarantee you that you won't do that with a silverado. Hell, you probably lost $5,000 driving that thing off the lot.

I'd personally like to see this thread continue over the next few months and years. Tell us how it's going , keep us updated on how the new truck is holding up.

    = Fail

IMHO you may have gained some size in the cab, but the loss of dependability and resale value were not a fair trade. Good luck though! If I see you on the side of the road I'll be sure to wave; after all, its the Texan way. :D

The resale value on my truck is 2 grand more than I paid for it. Still not enough to get rid of my truck!

The problems will breed by then and then the list will be even longer. I like the BSOD though. That is a new one for the books.

Great move. I did the same thing 8 months ago on a Silverado Z71 4x4. I get better gas mileage, no more squeaking problems, no radio flaws, I can haul and tow a lot more and their is more room. Hopefully, Toyota will get it right on the next design as they did when they first started making the Tacomas. I was really looking forward to driving my Tacoma for 10 years but, I could only stomach 6 months and decided I had enough.

Dude.. You're comparing a F'ing mid-size to a Full size! It's a little unfair! Compare resale and reliability if you really want to compare the 2!

Granite this is that guys decision you're just being rediculous making this comparison in the ways you did!

Now to make it better hows this for a comparison! Toyota TUNDRA (Full Size) and Chevy Silverado (Full Size)! or Toyota Tacoma (Midsize) and the Chevy Colorado (Only comparison which isn't even a contest)! Come on now...

I owned a silverado I also own an f250 diesel. The Tacoma is heads and shoulders better. You guys whining about gas mileage should just come out of the closet and buy a prius
