I don't give a crap about stolen gas caps. Its more of a deterrent for vandalism where i am. With a locking gas cap a vandal is more likely to go on, and look for an easier target. I had a locking gas door on my tundra. One night our area experienced vandalism from kicked in mail boxes to stuff poured into several neighbors gas tanks. They didn't touch my truck, but destroyed my mail box.

I went through this winter with my locking gas cap....no issues at all with the lock freezing up. I always squirt a little prestone coolant in them if a feel the lock getting tight. So far it was ok all winter.

Compare the two caps. The Stant has more threads than stock cap. My 2020 Sport threw a code after about a month and I went back to stock. Always made sure Stant was in tight and clicked. Good luck.

Odd I have been using the Stant 10504 for almost 2 years now in obviously very different climates. No codes, no issues.

Siphoning gas is a lost art. Now they just punch a hole in your plastic gas tank and drain it from below.

Appreciate all the replys from everyone. My main concern isn't someone stealing gas or a gas cap(that is a secondary concern for me). My main concern is someone putting anything else but gas down there. I just paid big bucks for this truck and want to avoid any problems from vandalism/jealous people. Not saying it will happen to me but you never know and like I said, I'd rather have it and not need it than not have it and need it.

I thought about getting a locking cap but decided I'd rather allow bums to siphon the gas than to force them to drill a hole in my tank...much cheaper that way. :-(

Also, it's easier and no tell-tale signs to pour corn syrup in than granulated sugar and does the same thing. But don't tell your kids that.

I would think having push start feature eliminates the need for keys. Locking fuel cap defeats this purpose. Interior fuel latch would be a good alternative.

True, if you have a smart key then kinda pointless to have a separate key for the gas cap. I have a MT tacoma without push button start, so I'm still going to use the key and don't mind the carrying an extra small key. If there was a way of cleanly installing an aftermarket gas door latch then I'd probably buy it though like you said in previous posts it would be impractical due to the separation between truck cab and truck bed.

Toyota didn't think of adding a lockable type gas tank cap. I couldn't believe it myself!, got a Stant mentioned in other replies.

theres a guy on here who took a bunch of Toyota parts (Corolla, etc) and made his own gas door locking mechanism. Dont think he used a cable, it was an electrically operated Toyota solenoid, but cant remember for sure. Was pretty sweet, but our gas doors are so flimsy, I'd think it wouldnt take much at all to pull the door open by just bending it. As for carrying a key for a locking cap, I always just kept mine in the center console.

I work near a high school and use a locking gas cap more so to keep funny stuff out of my tank. On one drive home I discovered an empty pizza box with napkins in my bed. Wished I had noticed that before I got on the freeway. Just an example of kids being kids.

I used the 10504 on a 2015 and 2017 Taco, no problems. The 10504 on my 2020 TRD Sport seemed to fit differently like Toyota may have changed the filler neck diameter or the cap purchased on ebay was mislabeled. Never had a problem before using the Stant.
Oreilly auto parts showed an AC Delco locking cap that fit up to a 2019 Taco but not a 2020. Anyone know if Tacoma filler neck changed in 2020?
