Hi I've been on here for nearly 5 years now and I've been leeching information on how to do things to my taco, its time I give back and do some how-to's for you guys. Any one interested in this? It's a usb power source 12v for dash cams and other accessories without having to wire a 6 foot cable and smashing your fingers.

    Taps into the compass power.

well... now they sell a plug and play harness that hides behind the roof liner and behind the mirror

but this is also a good idea for easy access to a secondary source of chargin phones or other usb power

I bought the Dongar dashcam adapter for the 2nd gen Tacoma back in April, and it just died a few days ago. So it worked just fine for 6 months basically.

    I've contacted the seller.

I've been debating a dash cam for a while and really wanted to do one hardwired. Thanks for this. Going to look into picking up that harness. Wish that bulkiness could just be pushed up under the headliner instead of right at the connector for the homelink mirror.

I recently hardwired mine in, up above the compass/map light assembly. I took apart the cig lighter adapter for my dash cam and desoldered the existing power/grounds. Soldered new wire leads on and put some spade connectors on the wire. Then I just tapped into the compass power and added spade connectors there as well. That way it's removable and reversible. It's ended up really clean and works exactly as expected. TBH I had no idea that harnesses existed so I just did it myself - only takes 30 or 40 mins if you have a soldering iron.

This is what i did also. I tapped into the 12v key on power. Just double check your wires there’s two 12v sources up there . One turns off when you put your lights on. Ask me how I know.lol618171A4-3B8C-4729-94B1-436E47E4BEC3.jpg
