KDMAX 6.0/OVTune April 4-17-2021 K&D Tuning

First 20 miles after this tune... I'm freakin floored! THIS is how it should have been from day 1. Thanks @PapaRee!!!

 

Max tune:

Just started the day of driving and 20 miles in...it’s a new - BETTER truck! Better than expected!

Thanks for doing this!!

 

Soooo, if any one was there around 10:40 am, Probably saw me MGM tAcoma with Nevada plates pull out the parking lot slow . I put it in drive and coasted out . I didn’t want to look like a rookie driver after getting tuned . I came to the stop sign and immediately felt the throttle response . Hopped on the freeway and noticed how light the truck felt and than I hit traffic where I practiced my throttle response game . I have 4.5 hours of driving tomorrow back home ,with pure driving enjoyment . Thank you to @PapaRee and @TWTaco for the great tune . I Was able to talk to both of them , Cool guys.

 

Initial thoughts (after the 30 mile drive home):

-Throttle response is substantially improved (touch the pedal and she goes) glad Kreg loaded the Super Lite Tip-in....might be a bit too 'jumpy' with the standard LT?
-Shifting is much cleaner and smoother (no longer always looking to up-shift when the rpm's get down to 2000). It's like ECT on Roids.
-Definitely feels like more power and torque in 1st thru 4th
-Got about 1 mpg better than normal on the drive home

I wasn't having huge 'gear searching' issues prior to the tune (although the constant up-shifting was annoying AF). I was looking for the throttle to be much more responsive and the truck to drive like it should've when I drove it off the lot and the KDMax (87 with SLT-in) definitely seems to have delivered. Thanks Kreg & Dave for comin' to town and tunin' us all up! Thanks @Rdrnr03 for setting everything up!

Absolutely worth the price of admission so far.....Just wish now I would have done this prior to dropping a grand on the TRD intake and the TRD exhaust in hopes of an improved throttle response (which they 'kind-of' did).

Looking forward to logging some more seat time and see more of the improvements over time. Also looking forward to the better gas mileage!

Finally, the tune itself- sit in the driver’s seat, sit back, feather/stomp that throttle and watch your truck come alive!

It was a please meeting you both @PapaRee , your son and @TWTaco .I also have to thank @Rdrnr03 for setting up everything. I was there with the cement 17’ PRO with my son from Tucson.


I gotta say I’m very impressed. Throttle response is very smooth through the RPMs. My Taco is a manual and the most noticeable difference is first gear from a light. My boy was so excited he wanted to race a Ferrari 458 on I10 in Phoenix. I told the Ferrari owner to punch it so we could hear it. I may have to sell the Taco now. J/K.

 

For all you guys that got tuned if any of you tow trailers I would love to hear your thoughts after you tow. Considering a tune in the future but also tow and curious on your thoughts.
