TSB should always be first. Your tune pack is going to change based on the new ECU ID (04B81) you will have after the TSB. Updating your ECU ID via TSB overwrites your tune. You will have to flash a new tune after the update.

I am not certain, but I think I read on here, that OVTune will give you the new tune pack if you send him a screenshot of the TSB ECU update. You should check with him first though. (Do not do this based off this post without checking!) If he does not, and you update then you will no longer have a tune.

 

Copy that. I had already started down the road before even thinking about the TSB. Then I figured I'd go this route and be able to provide a direct comparison between the original ECU ID and the new one with the tunes. I'm very impressed with the improvement already. If I do the TSB and start over - it will be a good chance to see how they compare.

I was told by someone else on another forum that they would update my tune pack for me but it will still cost me some credits to unlock the ID after the TSB update; which is fine. I haven't emailed OVtune about it all yet.

Did anyone weigh pros and cons of paying on of the dudes that are running around doing tunes for like 200-250 vs paying the full 800 from OV? I'm leaning toward getting my own but wasnt sure if it's a waste of ching when there are other options available. Also, what is the TSB I've read about a couple times on here?

 

I recommend getting vf tuner that way you can do it yourself and find the tune that works for you instead of being stuck with one tune

 

A big benefit is not being stuck to a tune, or having to rely on someone else if you need to flash. you could always get VF Tuner + other persons tunes

Looking for a tuner within 50 miles of Scranton, Pa. Not real confident about doing it myself.

 

Dude it's not that hard many peps on here to help you walk through it . You would be so much happier having full control of your truck.

 

when you say you installed the included file, you meant, there's a sample file that comes with it, or you bought the tune pack besides de software and cable? this is the one mod that I feel im missing on mine so far.

 

Yeah, after I installed the Vftuner and got the registration number back from Ovtune, I first installed the tune that is included with the software that has the identical number to the OEM tune on my truck (04B80). According to Tonered, I was "tuned" at that point. My truck did show an improvement from just that tune (or so it certainly seemed to me - and my gas mileage went up).

Now, I also purchased the tune back when I bought the cable. So after a month of driving on the tune provided with the software, I programmed the Ovtune for regular gas for my vehicle from the tune pack. Gas mileage went up again and it shifts a lot better on the highway, especially when I'm running with the cruise control on and RADAR engaged. I actually hit 23 mpg average on one 70 mile trip down the highway with little traffic one day. I drove the same trip yesterday with moderate traffic and cruise control and averaged 19.8 for both ways and a few miles of city driving while there.

What was super satisfying was that I put my following distance on the adaptive cruise at the minimum distance and settled in behind a big-rig doing 70-75 and my mpg meter was parked on 30. That lasted 15 minutes before traffic killed it.

I want to do the TSB, but I have a long trip coming up next week and I'm a little hesitant to do the update before the trip in case I have issues; I need the truck for the trip. I'm going to look at it after the trip is over.

It sure does! I wanted to first buy the software and then later the pack... so based on what you said there, I’ll still do it like that... I’m barely hitting 16/17ish on my mpg and after almost two years haven’t got used to those awful shifting points

 

I don't know how many postings I've seen on the OVTune that say, essentially, "why didn't I do this a long time ago?" I've only had my truck a year...I'm glad I figured this out early.

 

Originally got the Ov tune after I put 33x10.5s on. Truck would barely drive it felt like without the tune. First impressions were a super touchy throttle, but used to it now. Truck got ~18 mpg with stock gears and 33s daily driving. Cruised on the highway alright, but would still do the gnarly 5th to 3rd downshift, breaking your neck and ears. Fast foward 4 more weeks, and I switched to 35x10.5s. First drive on them I went to Moab. From Issaquah, Wa to Moab, the dash average said 18.5mpgs, which if I did the math right equals out to 21mpgs with the tire size. Thats also with armor, stock gears, and bed full of spare parts. Doubted, I was doing maybe 65mph max due to my buddys rigs being slow. On the way home, cruised at 70-85mph and averaged 18mpg. Overall super happy with how it reacts with the stock gears and the 35x10.5s. At 70mph gps speed, it runs around 1300rpms if I remember right. Daily driving is around 16mpg in some stop and go.

 

Has anyone tried Sibi Built Tune? Been reading around but don't see much. Is it worth the price vs a regular OV tune?

Hey guys, I’m about to take delivery of ‘21. So without me having to comb through pages of posts can anyone tell me if any of these issues have been addressed by Toyota on the latest trucks?
Can someone give some guidance here?

I’ve had several previous generation Tacos & also own a GX470. I’m familiar with everything else on these rigs just not these tunes! Thx
