Seems like everyone knows about the Steens Mountain area and the Alvord desert in the eastern part of the state but not too many people seem to know about this area. In fact we only saw two other campers during the three days we explored the area. A hidden gem!

    NC OBX last week...

    Oregon Inlet a few nights:

Driving up NC12 through Corolla... one of the best parts of this drive is parking, enjoying a few beers and watching other rigs pass by:

Then finished up in Ocracoke for a couple nights:

man, we used to spend spring break on the OBX back in the late 80's and early 90's...it was so quiet and cool. We were not partiers...we wanted the beaches and area to be quiet...and it usually was back then. Esp in mid to late March. Haven't been there since 94...these pics make me miss it a lot!! My friend still goes down with is family - he never stopped going - but says it is NOTHING like it was back then. The still stay in the same house we used to in Southern Shores...

I bet! This is the first time I've been back in 10 years... before that it was probably another 15 years prior. Duck is still relatively quiet (for now) and wasn't too crowded when we drove through. Same for Ocracoke... although hitting these spots in early April probably helped us a lot in terms of missing the big crowds.

SOLD the initial and upgraded to a 10 box sport addition. Waiting on camping season to come. Extra space is a luxury and having a couch is so nice.

so is that carpet under your tent made of plastic? How does it do when it rains?

Yeah, it's made of like an outdoor rubberized plastic material, so it's not supposed to really get water logged or slippery when it rains. I've been camping with it when it has rained short periods and it's been great. It didn't get soaked or anything underneath the tent. I've never had it out when it was coming a down pour but really at that point I don't think it would make much of a difference compared to the ground getting soaked either.

yeah...was wondering what happens in a steady rain etc...I use a much smaller tent - Tarptent Stratospire 2 - and am still looking for a good ground covering. I don't like putting it right on the ground
