So I've started to look into installing a new head unit, the features that I want the head unit to have is really just apple car play and a backup camera. I've found a head unit that looks good but I would am open to any suggestions. The thing that I am having a harder time finding is a tailgate handle that has a camera imbedded into it. Anyone have any advice?

I was also thinking, i might be able to use the camera that is included in this as a front camera, not sure if that's possible.

I'm also looking for one of those little things that u can replace the cigarettes lighter with a usb and aux port.

I just installed the Jensen Car1000 ($399) in my 2007 Tacoma from Crutchfield along with the LED lighted back up cam ($59). I chose the Jensen unit because it has an easy to reach volume knob, as my 07 does not have steering wheel volume button. It's a bare bones head unit that does CarPlay very well, and it sounds great with 50 watt mossfet power.

Back up camera is super nice on the 10" screen. This model has the moving lines as well. I can back up to my trailers in zero light as the LED's on the backup camera are super bright. Mounting via the hidden license plate frame is rock solid and I can still see out the back up cam with the tailgate down.

How'd you route the camera cable?

I wired the cam reverse trigger right off the 7 way hitch wiring. Then I wrapped the video cable in loom and ran it on top of the frame on drivers side. I brought it into the cab via a drain grommet in the floor. upload_2021-4-19_21-37-52.jpg

This would be nice if possible. Not sure if the head units have 2 camera ports, or maybe you could rig some sort so switch that automatically defaults to the rear when you go in reverse. I’m sure you could use a double pole switch instead if needed but that would be a pain.

Front cam could be added to the video input. It would be easy to trigger the camera from a dash mounted switch. The Reverse triggered camera would take over when backing up as the head unit is programmed that way. Front cam would be helpful off-roading etc.

Hey OP, I'm looking for your thoughts on the head unit after a couple months, still like it? I'm very seriously looking at the Jensen Car910x and there aren't many reviews out there.

Also to those asking about front camera, I got this information directly from Jensen customer support when asking about the second A/V input:

The answer is yes you could use this for a front camera. This will require you to ground the parking brake wire so that this will be visible when moving and you will need a Standard view camera since Backup cameras images are reverse and if using for a front camera everything will be on the wrong side.
