Just rented a Jeep for a week... I don't get it?

Ok, so a week with the Jeep was a nice upgrade over the minivan that I was worried I would end up with, but compared to my boring taco its not even a comparison.

Ride comfort is non-existent in the Jeep, if you aren't hard core off roading every weekend, why would you want that? Why not just build a dedicated rig out of a CJ7?

What is the point of the keyless ignition when it doesn't open the doors by touch?

I don't get the interior styling either, its just cartoonish on the inside. I am not a super fan of the yota, but I really don't like the jeep.

Both have android auto, so there is no need to compare there, but the taco has a better mic when asking google questions.

Why anyone would want a 4 door extra long jeep truck over a taco makes very little sense to me, but I don't really off-road unless you count the beach.

I sold my 2020 Wrangler to Carvana for what I paid after a year of ownership. I loved the top and doors off feeling in the summer. That's why I bought it. The ride was ok, fairly quiet on the road, mileage about the same, but, the dealer and I were on a first name basis. New front suspension because it wandered all over the road, radio stopped whenever it felt like it and the 10 miles of weatherstripping was coming off...So I bought a 2021 DCOR. Nice truck, slow, good quality worse mileage, but I have had several and it feels like home:)

Try taking the top and doors off your Tacoma and driving it around.

I've had 4 Wranglers over the years. Wouldn't pay for a new one, nor want one for an every day driver. But purchased used and used as a toy for riding around in they can't be beat. Off road they will fit into places few others will.

The best thing is resale value on older used ones. All 4 of the ones I had were just toys for my wife and I. When we got tired of it, or needed cash for a new roof etc., we were able to quickly sell it and get most if not all of our money back.

There's a butt for every seat. The Wrangler isn't for you. No big deal.

The Taco wins for you and me.

Oh, I definitely get the appeal of a Jeep. Long term reliability was the only reason I went Tacoma over Gladiator or JLU.

If I spent more time driving with the whole family (wife and 3 kids) I still probably would have, and then just traded it in before it hit 100k. But since it's just me and/or part of the family 99.7% of the time, I went Taco.

Roommate got rear ended not too long ago and ended up in a brand new 4 door JL for a week or so. As a dedicated off road rig, I totally see the appeal. Take the doors and roof off and have a great time. Solid axle from the factory helps too. But as a daily driver? Hell no. The ride in that jeep was worse than my 1995 CCLB F350 which has leaf springs on all 4 corners. The radio turned itself off every few minutes. He averaged about 13-14mpg. Overall, as a dd jeeps are awful and I don't understand it, but if its a true off roader then I get it

A Gladiator was briefly on my list when I was shopping for my Taco but the lack of reliability and the cost to get the package I wanted quickly ended that. As far as driving around with no top or doors go, I have a VW Thing which does that quite nicely when I'm in the mood, even though I have never felt the need to remove the doors and have only folded the windshield down once.

It does pretty well off-road too.

I had the Jeep Liberty CRD for 11 years before moving on and getting a Tacoma. I would agree that the Wrangler and probably the Gladiator ride rough. they have cartoonish dash. The quality is not the same as toyota seems to me for sure.

I did Love the Jeep I had but it was getting old and that I had replaced the transmission once decided it had to go before 200,000 miles. It wasn't something I could keep and daily drive too much longer with out issues. I was ready for something different, I had been saving knowing some day I'd need to replace it, but with what? I looked at new midsize suvs, I really felt they were are now crossovers, hated them. then looked at a few midsize trucks, ford GM, Nissan, Gladiator and Toyota. For price, value, reliability it was the best choice. not as exciting as the Gladiator looks but still good looking and I felt like I found the one for me.

Thats my dream vehicle right there. I rented one in Mexico a while back and it was a three speed, bald tired blast of a car. Whenever it got bogged down in sand all it took to recover was for me to get out and give it a good shove.

Never been a big Jeep fan, especially the newer ones. The older ones are a different category but they’re on two different spectrums. The new ones just feel cheap, I don’t get how they hold their value the way they do. To me they have the interior quality of a Mitsubishi Mirage.
