Auxillary Light Install Question

I'm in the process of installing a pair of Hella FF500's on my 2004. I'm good on everything but the wiring for the on/off with the highbeam lights. I used the aqua colored wire they include. It is supposed to run from the switch and splice into the highbeam wire. Here are my questions....

1. Were is the best place to splice into the highbeams? I was planning on going right by the driver's side headlight. Anyone have a better place?

2. There are 3 wires that going into the driver's side headlight. Which one do I tap into?

don't splice into the highbeams. tap into the green wire on the side markers. that way as long as your side markers are on you'll be able to use your fogs

 

Thanks for the help. Years ago I had a Land Rover that had the aux lights wired so that you had to have the highbeams on for them to work. If you flicked off you highbeams the aux lights would also go off. I like this b/c it was easy to turn everything off with one quick flick for an oncoming car. I think I would like to have that again

I've done some more reading and this is what I found.........

Toyota uses a reverse ground control system for the head lights. When you turn them on the a relay puts 12+ into both the low and the high beam filiments. There is a second relay that controls which filiment is alowed to ground and complete the circuit. So, you can not tap in at the head lights to control AUX lights.

Is that accurate?

 

On my old 1997, I spliced into the highbeam right behind the driver's headlight (like you were indicating) for my KC Daylighters (I only wanted them on when my highbeams were on). I had no problems doing it.

Of course, I soldered it in, I didn't use one of those cheesy little "inline splicer" things.

I'm getting ready to install a set on my 2003 and I plan on doing the same thing.
