Anyone have a recommendation for a Toyota mechanic in the SB area? Can be a shop, friend or just a random neighbor, I'm not picky as long as they're good at working on these trucks. I need to replace a few parts (ball joints, maybe UCAs) and need help diagnosing high idle and p0420 (these are separate issues in my case . . . I think). I like working on and learning about my truck -- when it makes sense to do so. I don't have all the tools needed for the ball joints and I'm wary of throwing parts at the idle issue until I have someone who knows more that me verify what I'm thinking. Thanks

Hey guys, Im fairly new to the Ventura area and don’t know any reputable shops out here. I usually do all the work on my truck myself, however I just got some SPC arms and would really like to find someone who can work with these on dialing in my alignment.

Any suggestions on a reputable shop for getting these dialed in would be highly appreciated!

A few posts above, a couple guys recommended Cory Motors in Montecito. I ended up going w Powell Garage in SB. They seemed fair priced and honest. Not sure if that's too far for you, but those are my 2 cents.

I’m actually in search of a good alignment place as well, used to do Big Brand but they’ve gotten lazy and half the time won’t set it to the specs I tell them to

So, my brakes have been “spongey” ever since I bought my truck(purchased with 285/75/16’s). Is this a normal thing? My brother’s 2014 is running the same size tire and his are way more responsive. Any ideas?

You're not alone, mine have been this way for sometime now and I just have never noticed I guess. Every time my brother drives my truck he says my brakes are shit, and I just never believed him since they felt fine. Well, last Friday after work I'm in the left lane on Hollister going 40-45MPH and this lady (who looked to be getting driving instructions from husband in the passenger seat) came to a complete stop, for NO REASON AT ALL. Literally no cars in her lane or anything. With my pedal down as far as possible I was barely able to stop in time. Honestly, I was probably an inch from her car when I finally stopped. Luckily her shitty smart car type of vehicle was angled like a hatch-back or else my front bumper bar would have gone through her window.

    Hate shitty drivers!

My brakes got a little soft so I installed some ss braided lines. Had to flush the brake fluid and the truck felt like it was new. Best $200 mod on these trucks!

Sorry to hear you had to deal with that situation Chris. However, I’m very glad to hear that you did not end up getting into an accident.

A similar scenario happened to me driving the 101 Southbound after work years back. It was a very heavy traffic day. Well, everyone decided to start moving faster and as we all increased or speed a bit, this lady in her Lexus decided to change lanes and go directly in front of me. I started to slow down but then so did all the traffic around me. And there she was in front of me with her car breaking. Yeah, I wasn’t as lucky as you. Let’s just say...this incident is where I came up with “Prius & Lexus...I eat them for breakfast” Haha

Yeah, I got new pads & rotors not too long ago & already had extended length stainless braided lines on the rear. I have not yet installed the front lines yet. Maybe the sponginess I’m experiencing will go away after I put the front brake lines on.
