87 will work fine for non-turbo performance cars.

I use regular 87 but make sure its Tier 1. I can't get non-ethanol here, so there is one little special thing I do for the truck. I give it some squirts of the fuel stabilizer. Had the truck for 6 months and only filled it one time so far, so I try to keep the fuel nice.

Unfortunately we only have 10% ethanol fuels here, but E87 definitely performs best in my 2020 v6 sr5.

Same here. Tired 87 before the tune, not as smooth going uphill. Abnormal engine noise on slight acceleration uphill. Noise not there on 91 . Now with the 91 and the premium 2.0 tune, it’s buttery smooth.

I’ve personally noticed a slight less tick with 91. But I was also on a fresh oil change. The thing to watch out for is ethanol. It does no justice on your valves/heads. After working in an automotive dealership for the past four years I’ve seen vehicles with 20k miles look like they have 200k miles.

    some gas is good

    some is not

    some cheap under contract

all vehicles are designed to run most types

if under heavy loaded long term environs

i would move up a grade

everyday putting around i use name brand regular

U might want to look at ‘ TOP TIER GASOLINES “

ethanol percentages vary widely especially when travelling

when in doubt i use ‘ MID Grade ‘ !!

Running 91 because it’s the only grade I can find around here in non-ethanol. My mileage improves with the non-ethanol (though probably not enough to offset the additional cost).

But if the truck is getting better mileage, it means it’s happier. And that makes me happy

Tried running several tankfuls of shell premium here....truck ran with less power, and got nearly 2 mpg worse fuel economy than shell 87. Been running 87 now for awhile....much better.

All the extra additives in their premium? May give it a shot elsewhere but I do have Shell rewards and I also run a premium tune.

I've noticed the tail pipe on my truck to be a sooty black color when i ran the shell premium. When back to 87 its a clean light grayish color. My truck definitely doesn't like higher grade octane fuels.

since I got the truck and this put me back to a Gasoline vehicle from diesel, I just go to BJ's wholesale and fill up with 87 every time but once when I tried the 93 there. yeah it's got some ethanol but I never seen a difference.
The price is always lower than other places in town and I get $0.10 extra off per gallon with my BJ's perks mastercard so I just buy gas with that and pay it off all the time.

I use Shell V-Power 91 in everything (outboards, lawnmower, snow blower, pressure washer, generators) that runs on gas. Use it because up here in Alberta it's Ethanol free.

Quoted this so some people can read it again haha. Higher octane DOES NOT equal higher quality. Higher octane requires higher compression to detonate it. In my 2020 owners manual Toyota recommends 87 octane "top tier" fuel. Fuel pumps will have the top tier logo sticker to prove they qualify. My next door shell has it

That's fine, but for as long as I can, i avoid ethanol "degraded" gasoline...and it's not the octane that I'm after...just clean pure gasoline !

I like ethanol. Every car manufactured in the past 20 or so years is unaffected and it keeps my my engine squeaky clean. 87 here, anything else makes absolutely no difference with the stock tune.

I don’t think I have ever seen one of those stickers in my life. Learn something new every day.
