    I agree - I'd love to have a diesel in a small truck ...

Outside North America the Tacoma (Hilux) and 4Runner (Hilux SW4) are both available with diesels.

I wish more manufacturers brought these options to the states. Dodge seems to be the only one that does... With the Liberty diesel, for example.

I wish I knew why we don't have the diesel options that the rest of the world has. Is it our emission standards perhaps? Does europe use "clean diesel"? But I think the rumor about a toyota diesel is mainly about that new huge-ass tundra that will be out soon.

it's a combination of factors. "clean" (low sulfer) diesel fule is one. Emissions standards is another. Availability is another. In Pac Northwest, Diesel #2 is EASY to get. In socal, however, it's limited. But the biggest reason, imo, is that we tried diesel as a country and it was noisy, smelly, smokey, unrefined, expensive, and unreliable. Today's diesel technology has made so much progress -- but getting over mass public opinion is hard to do.

Talking to the "Reps" they told me thast in the near future Toyota will be extending the hybrid technology to their truck line. However they didn't say anything about a diesel in the Tacoma but there will be one in the Tundra within a few years also with that diesel Toyota is working on a diesel electric hybrid.

I heard the same bout the hybrid technology. Did you hear when they're going to be incorporating that into the trucks?

So a truck that adds to the greenhouse effect with the black diesel smoke and then saves the ozone by burning cleaner emissions

    kinda like an oxymoron

So everyone here likes those small diesels? You like the $20 oil filters or going extra slow up hills? I think living with a diesel is more appealing since there are none in the US market. Anyone else remember the Volkswagen pickup with diesel? They were cheap to run, slow up the hills and not so cheap to fix.

I ran VW diesels for years, most had well over 300K on them when Igot rid of them.

Those diesel trucks you joke about are still going for $2000 and up on EBay, with more than 200K on them. Here's one, a 81 with 125 on it, current bid is $5700. More than it cost new. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1981...ryZ15294QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Elisha Cuthbert isnt nearly as good looking in person. Some buddies of mine met her in a bar in calgary and got pics with them together. She aint ugly by any means, but she sure as hell doesnt look as good as that pic.... or any of the other pics found in maxim etc.

I don't know why alot of posters think that a diesel is so great, there is extra maintance, fuel filters need regular changing, injectors that fail, and are costly, mostlikely a $ 2k injection pump if that goes and Diesel fuel cost more, got to run blended in the winter or #1 fuel, plug the bitch in when it get to cold to fire on its own, and then after 400K miles you can throw the body away and use the engine for a boat anchor.
