Damn. You lose your hitch and maybe your spare? That seems like it was a little rushed to market.

It has a built in hitch, and I all the pictures I am seeing have the spare. Am I just reading over the description about the loss of a spare? that would be a no go for sure.

This bumper does require removal of the OEM tow hitch. A long shank hitch such as Reese 80233 is needed to clear the flip down license plate. The spare tire may also need to be lowered and adjusted slightly forward, then raised

You don't lose your hitch at all. It is behind the license plate holder. The new position gives greater ground clearance--which is great. The spare is fine where it is, just needs minor adjustment as you crank it up. No problem at all. And this is the only bumper I can find that works with both the parking sensors and the blind spot monitors (BSM).

Well their site says you need to remove it and use a Reese long shank hitch.

The hitch RECEIVER is the thing that is welded to the bumper (both the OEM and the Apogee one) so no, you aren't losing the "receiver", what you are getting with the Apogee bumper is a receiver in a better location than the OEM one.

The hitch is this thing--that holds the "ball".--and yes you need a special one that has a long shank (the square part in the picture). The Tacomas don't come with the hitch to begin with and neither does the Apogee bumper.

So I get my $1600 bumper, buy a new longer hitch and then hope my spare tire fits? Thanks for clearing that up.

It appears that a spare fits from the website.....

I have a spare under my rig and I have HC rear bumper, between lift and tires I had to go to a b&w 10” drop hitch so that the trailer would come close to riding level.

Then don't buy it, every mod is a compromise.

Nah I was looking for a rear bumper that would retain the BSM's. I just found their site kinda lazy. I've bought plenty of mods that were complete and nothing was a compromise. At top dollar I would expect it complete.

And thanks for the advice. :playball:

It DOES retain the BSM's as well as the back-up monitors as well as the hitch receiver and the spare DOES fit. As far as I know it IS the ONLY rear bumper that does so. Seems you are kinda lazy, not them.
