I even threw on a post MAF hose thinking I would get a little more but that did nothing. Same with the AIRAID CAI. I mean they already have CAI but this was high end. All that stuff is off and I am back to stock with just the tune

I installed a Gibson 2.5 exhaust and have the TRD CAI and I think my 2020 TRD OR is running and sounds great.

Icon stage 3, Method NV305, 33 Ko2,Llumar IRX tint, OV performance 87 tune, Focal k2 and polyglass rears. Jl audio amp and sub. Dasaita PX6, remote X starter, bakflip cover, train horns, trd pro grill and front camera, AMP research power steps and Magnuson supercharger on order!
I had the same experience. Threw on a Carven cat back exhaust and lost some low end. Gained in the high end and this is with the supercharger. After one month its for sale. I think this engine is sensitive to lower back pressure.

Yea they only make a few select catbacks for the dblcb longbed. Gibson isn’t one of them. Do you feel it has lost some low end

So I have this combo on my truck and it rips I got the k&n performance intake , afe throttle body spacer, next is ripp performance coils, mrbp performance xp cat back 3in exhaust kit, and a nicley done tune by @PapaRee kdmax 6.0 . Now recently he updated his tune and I have never felt this kind of power out of my truck in 100,000 mi and with running 285/75/16 km3's E rated 10 ply I'm super happy with all the money I put in on engine mods . Only other steps are headers and super charger and what I would really like to do is put my truck on a dyno and see what I got at the tires for horsepower with current mods.

I too suffered from symptoms of loss of lower end power started with the intake so ok more air threw the motor have to get it out faster so got exhaust kit helped a good amount , then I thought well more air coming in more air going out truck wants more fuel so I thought again and came across ripp performance coils . Ok let's get the fuel burning better maybe , so yeah I got more pow on the top end . Then next one I went out on a limb and got the afe throttle body spacer and guys still to this day say they are junk, my opinion no It gave the truck little more pep in the lower end and mid range that's it. Fyi my truck has always had premium fuel . Save the best for last . Everyone was talking about ov tune this ov tune that and I sat listened read many many threads and finally pulled the trigger got vf tuner and ov tune . First impressions yeah it was great but everyone was saying there was better out there , they were right . I tried so many different tunes and the best for me as a daily driver is kdmax 6.0 @PapaRee . For lots of snappy oh crappy @Mooseditty17 tune I got that when I need it , and for the time I need to just cruise and save some mpgs I have @TermLimits tune valley runner

    Excuse my horrible typing please

Yea I’m not impressed with OV TUNE. I am also a Dailey driver, a lot of stop and go so I really need that low end. I didn’t even know there was another tune for 3rd gen until now. I’ve probably dumped $3000 into my truck only to have it all sitting in the garage. Sad really.

I went down this road with my first gen tacoma with the 2.7. I swapped the muffler for a Flowmaster 40 series delta flow and put a drop in filter in the stock airbox. It was a lot of fun around town, but had minimal performance gains and it was super obnoxious on long distance trips. The fun quickly wore off.

On my third gen I put a K&N drop in air filter in mine shortly after buying it and left the rest stock. I've noticed the truck doesn't seem as starved for air during startup, maybe a slight fuel economy improvement and overall driving improvement, but nothing super significant. I've considered upgrading to the factory trd exhaust mostly for looks, but also because it actually seems a little quieter. I'm sure the muffler flows a little better.

However, I don't think its really worth the cost and I've grown to dislike loud exhausts unless they're on jet boats, hot rods, or muscle cars. Even on hot rods and muscle cars it's nice to be able to open or close cut outs when your ears get tired. Maybe I'm just getting older. :anonymous:

Edit: If you have the chance take a ride in a luxury car. They're well insulated and super quiet inside. Something to be said for peace and comfort.

    A few.
Is there a section in that tune software for mods like an exhaust or CAI like some tuners have?

I went through that with my 2007 tundra trying different exhausts. Its not just increasing the pipe sizing, the straight through free flowing mufflers also can cause a loss if torque in the lower rpms. I noticed a power increase right off after I put the stock exhaust back on.

I also had a Borla s type catback on my tacoma for a week before switching back to stock.
Manufacturers dont just grab piping off the shelf as an after thought, exhausts are engineered just like the rest of the vehicle.

Hey taco sensei. I just had a quick question. I haven’t had time to play around with my OV Tune but I am currently on the reg stock thx. Is the reg stock going to be the original stock tune? And I assume the 4.88 and 5.27 are the gear ratios and since I’m AT I really only have the thx tune or tune myself to chose from. Is this correct

I have Borla, and honestly I can only tell the truck is louder, and I can rev faster. Under load it is slow AF, and the sweet spot for baritone note is right around 3000 RPM

    Hey.

No. The Reg Stock tune is nom-Thx with no aftermarket gears. The Stock tune is in the installation folder:
    c:\\program files (x86)\vftuner\tacoma\

So are you keeping the Borla on. I put it on then took it off. I decided that it’s better on than $700 sitting in the box

Yes, so far I'm pleased with it. I did the install on my driveway, and after putting Borla on, I went on a test drive leaving the stock muffler behind.
10 mins later, the stock one's gone, so I have nothing to go back to now:facepalm:

Yea the truck definitely likes the stock exhaust better but I’m leaving mine on as well.
