Not bad at all. Promising potential for anyone wanting to do a reframe project on these trucks. What's the estimated cost to have a frame replacement done by the dealer, something like $10,000?

When they replaced mine 4 years ago, it was estimated at around $13,000. Probably considerably more now!

Little less than half of the average price around here.

Do you know what the frame cost for that estimate was? New Frame, I would imagine...

I believe it was $3,500, for the bare frame.

I was at a local dealer on Friday that happened to be doing a frame job for a customer. The parts guys where wheeling a frame out of one bay over to the service bay where the truck was on a lift without a frame so I struck up a conversation with the counter guy. He quoted me $3,550 for the Double Cab frame and $3,500 for the extra cab frame. The job for the swap they were doing was estimated at $15,900! Crazy money but he said they warrant the truck for 24 months. I have never heard of that. Did you get a warranty with the frame replacement?

No, but mine was a special situation. My truck was a salvage titled vehicle, and the dealer should never have done the frame replacement. They didn't realize that until they had the bed and cab off the frame. It almost still didn't get done, but I agreed to pay $2000 for the new frame.

I would feel like I made out like a bandit on a deal like that. Did the salvage come off the title after the frame was replaced?

Yes, well worth that to me. No, still a salvage title. It's no real concern to me, as I plan to run the truck until it dies.

I know the pictures could be deceiving but it looks like the front end of your truck is a cherry. I would take a road trip in a heartbeat if the end product is a clean, well maintained first gen Tacoma with the bells and whistles that mattered most to me. Good luck with your decision!

Excellent buy, an even better choice! I wish you all the best rebuilding your truck on a new frame.

Mine is a good bit newer but I have a Tacoma that was rear-ended and rebuilt on a new frame. I've put a ton of miles on it since the work was done and haven't had a bit of problems. I also took the opportunity to add some upgrades. If I were to sell it I might take a hit on resale value but my plan has always been to drive it until I roll the wheels off. I couldn't be more pleased with my decision and hope it works out this way for you.

@andersonjase I really hope you will either use this thread or start a new one for your frame replacement project. I would enjoy watching and providing encouragement
