Contemplating getting a Pike for my P bike, but the Pike DJ's have spotty reliability. They do look good though.

Carrying a battery 1/2 a mile is not an easy task at all.

I got the SRAM bleeding edge tool, which I didn't have the first time I bled my brakes. I figured let's give it a shot with this and see if it turns out better.

Nope. Following SRAMs own video, the SRAM Guide Rs just have a terrible bite point. It's about a 25mm pull before the brake bites at all.

Do like Alex recommended and use a smaller bleeding block in between the pistons when bleeding. Allows more fluid.

Also, try pressurizing the master cylinder more I suppose.

    not enough.
here's what I end up doing...it's a little tricky and gotta be careful...once you do the initial bleed, put your wheel back on and pull hte lever until you get normal pressure...then put the bleeding edge back on and pressurize from there. Pressurize and close the port while still holding the syringe in so that it takes in the pressure. if you don't like it, open up the port and pull some out and close. try again. repeat until you gt the pressure you like. Be careful not to squirt DOT fluid all over your pads and rotors when you pull the bleeding edge tool off. :)

The brake rotor will be easily salvageable, not sure how you'd get the fluid out of the pads.
Maybe let it soak in the water for a day and it would come out of the pores.

hah. or just don't get dot fluid all over it. I usually put a towel or something over the caliper.

@jjones.yota I’ve had pretty good luck with a thinner bleed block and nothing else special in the process. It’s a balance. Old SRAM brakes sucked because there wasn’t enough clearance and the rotors always rubbed and I would have loved more clearance back then. Now we have clearance and a long throw. I guess they just need a lever/master cylinder that pushes more fluid with less lever throw. Used to cheat my old Shimano brakes in closer for shorter pull too.

But trust me they aren’t nearly as bad as many many of the brakes in the past and we still have it pretty good. But they are a budget “good brake” so one of those things you get what you pay for.

I had a set of Avid Elixir's on the Motobecane hard tail. They were okay, but bleeding them was a production. Then next to it bleeding shimano's takes like 2 seconds and no special tools.

I was going to specify Avid but figured these new riders wouldn't even know what that was. Those Juicy brakes were the WORST! ha
